INTRODUCTION:
This work procedure gives step-by-step instructions about replacing the windshield wiper motor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The task has to be carried out by an experienced automotive technician.

SPECIAL TOOLS, EQUIPMENT OR SERVICES:
No special tools or equipment or services required.

Park the coach on a level ground.
Apply the parking brake and shut down the engine.
Switch off all systems and turn off the battery master switch.
Put a “DO NOT OPERATE” tag on the instrument panel.
Read the entire procedure before beginning to work.

Action
Make sure the wiper motor is in the park position prior to starting work.
(Procedure to put wiper motor in the park position: Actuate windshield wiper control
to engage wiper motor. Put windshield wiper control back in the "off" position. Wiper
motor will stop when it arrives its park position).
Remove the wiper arms as explained under “STEP 2 IN DETAIL”:
Remove the wiper motor as explained under “STEP 3 IN DETAIL”.
Install the wiper motor as explained under “STEP 4 IN DETAIL”.
Install the wiper arms as explained under “STEP 5 IN DETAIL”.

STEP 2 IN DETAIL: To remove wiper arms

Action
Pull the wiper arm away from the windshield.
Carefully remove the windshield washer fluid hose connection.
Remove the cap-plugs and the nuts retaining the wiper arms to the pivot shafts and
carefully take away the wiper arms.
Repeat this procedure for the other wiper arm.

STEP 3 IN DETAIL: To remove wiper motor

Drain the compressed-air circuit by means of the drain valve on the accessories tank.
For the location of the accessories tank, refer to chapter 13.6 of the maintenance
manual.
Turn the emergency valve handle in the stepwell clockwise to depressurize the
entrance door actuating cylinder.
In the stepwell, at the right-side of the dashboard: carefully remove the with hookand loop fastener strips secured center trim panel.

In the stepwell, at the right-side of the dashboard: remove the handle of the
entrance door emergency release valve.

Remove the panel holding the entrance door emergency release valve.

Mark the position of the compressed-air lines to ensure correct reassembly and
disconnect the air lines from the entrance door emergency release valve.

Remove the screws indicated in figure 5 and take away the dashboard panel to gain
access to the windshield wiper motor.

Slacken the upper clamp and pull the ventilation flex tube off aside to gain access to
the crank arm from the motor shaft.

Disconnect the electric connector of the wiper motor.

Reaching behind the wiper motor mounting plate, remove the crank arm from the
motor shaft. Keep the fastener apart for re-use.

STEP 4 IN DETAIL: To install wiper motor

Action
Install the wiper motor. Tighten the screws to a torque of 15 to 18 ft.lbf (20 to 25 Nm).

Connect the crank arm on the wiper motor shaft as follows:
a. Place the crank arm on the serrations of the motor shaft so that the arm is
horizontal.
b. Install the clamping bolt and tighten the self-locking nut to a torque of 17 to 20
ft.lbf (22 to 27 Nm).

Reconnect the flex tube (figure 6).
Reinstall the dashboard panel (figure 5).

Reconnect the compressed-air lines to the entrance door emergency release valve
(figure 4).
Reinstall the panel holding the entrance door emergency release valve (figure 3).
Reinstall the handle on entrance door emergency release valve (figure 2).
Reinstall the with hook-and loop fastener strips secured trim panel (figure 1).

STEP 5 IN DETAIL: To re-install wiper arms

Position the assembled wiper arms on the serrated pivot shafts. The wiper blade
should be about 4 inch (100 mm) from the windshield centre post (refer to figure 12).
Tighten the wiper arm retaining nuts to a torque of 25 to 33 ft. lbf (35 to 45 Nm).
NOTE: It may be necessary to remove and reposition the wiper arms to obtain
correct position of the wiper blade. Do not attempt to manually move the wiper arms
to make wiper blade adjustments as damage to the wiper linkage or motor may
occur.

Install the windshield washer hose connection.
Repeat steps 5.1 and 5.2 for the windshield wiper arms from the other windshield.
After 30 minutes, re-tighten the wiper arms retaining nuts with the same torque as
earlier indicated. The connection relaxes slowly over time, and by re-tightening the
nuts you ensure a reliable connection.
Put the cap-plugs in the wiper arms.
