A new kit is available to repair exhaust leaks from the Fey ring joints on the exhaust manifold of 2010 MaxxForce 11

RESOLUTION
Install the Exhaust Manifold Seal kit on the existing Fey ring joints.
Step 1: Installing the brown braided rope packing (Figure 1)
1. Wrap rope around junction of manifold joint
2. Install so the ends of rope come together at top of manifold.
3. Press rope tightly into joint with fingers and tape in place using pre-applied tape.

1. Braided Rope Packing with seam at the top
2. Seal with attached tape

Step 2: Installing the ceramic wrap seal assy. (Figure 2 & 3)
1. Wrap the ceramic mat around the manifolds and rope.
2. The thicker section of the mat goes over the rope and the joint should be at mid point of manifold as shown.
3. Use tape in place using pre-applied tape.

2. Use attached tape to seal the joint.

Step 3: Installing the Shields (housings). (Figure 4)
1. Install the Housings as shown with the mat joint located so it lines up with housing edge when the housings come closed. This will

help assure the mat edges close tightly as the housings are tightened down.

2. Assure mat stays in place over the rope and is within the housings. The mat must overlap the rope as shown in
last picture in these instructions.

Step 4 : Install Worm Drive Clamps (Figure 5 & 6)
1. Install first worm drive clamp on rope packing end of housing first .
2. Tighten to take up slack.
3. Install second worm drive clamp.
4. Alternately tighten each clamp to bring housing to tight condition.
5. Keep housing aligned during tightening with seal end leg in line with male housing inner wall surface.
6. Final clamp tightening torque is 70 inch pounds.

leaking Fey Rings and Exhaust Manifold sections that show wear in the Fey Ring sealing area? Tha last photo does not
display the Fey Rings being installed on the exhaust manifold. Is this kit used in place of replacing the leaking Fey Rings?

changed anymore. The old ones are to be left in place on the manifold. This service kit can be installed without removing the
manifold sections.
