Cause:
The contact design of the electrical ground connections to the vehicle body has been changed.
All M6 ground bolts on the body are overpainted during production.
Newly developed paint-stripping nuts are now used.
Remedy:
The technology of the paint-stripping nut means that the paint on the ground bolt is scraped off as the nut is tightened,
establishing an electrical connection between the male thread of the ground bolt and the inside thread of the nut.
The contact points of the electrical ground connection are the underside of the thread on the ground bolt and the
threads of the nut.
It does not matter that the contact surface and the protruding thread of the ground bolt are overpainted because the
electrical ground connection is made via the thread of the ground bolt.

These ground points are assessed as not OK during repair work. However, our experts are of the opinion that these
ground points are OK (see above for reasoning).
In the event of electrical problems in the vehicle, DO NOT open and clean the ground points.
Contact surface of ground bolt:
The contact surface of the ground bolt for the cable lug is overpainted. This is OK!!!

It is sufficient merely to ensure that the contact surface of the cable lug is flat (no dirt inclusions or welding spatter).
DO NOT clean the paint off the contact surface, as this could lead to other problems (corrosion).
Reuse of paint-stripping nuts:
Before screwing the paint-stripping nut back onto the ground connection, the paint residues in the grooves of the
paint-stripping nut must be removed (e.g. blow out with compressed air).
Replacement of nuts on ground points:
In repair cases, make sure that only the new paint-stripping nuts are used.
Paintwork rectification on the vehicle:
To avoid excessively thick paint coats, the connection must be masked (e.g. with a nut screwed on or with a cap) before retouching the paintwork in the area of the ground connection.

merely check and clean the ground points.
