Rework Seam Seal at Spare Tire Well

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has determined that the seam seal at the spare tire well may not be to specification. To correct
this condition, an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will rework the seam seal at the spare tire well at the
next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:


Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously
repaired.



Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as
described.

Approximately 321 vehicles are affected.

This bulletin has been created and maintained in accordance with MBUSA-SLP S423QH001, Document and Data
Control, and MBUSA-SLP S424HH001, Control of Quality Records.

Procedure
1. Check seal seam in area of spare tire well:


Check seal seam on marked corner area (Figure 1) inside of spare tire well.



Lift vehicle with vehicle lift.



Check seam seal on marked corner area (Figures 1, 3) outside of spare tire well.
Note:



If seal seam is not damaged (both sides OK): Procedure is complete.



If seal seam is damaged: Proceed to steps 2, 3.

2. Thoroughly clean seal seams and then degrease with silicone remover (shop supply).
3. Apply missing seam sealant on outside and inside on spare tire well (Figures 2 and 3).
