Heavy Duty Engine Platform Oil Suction Manifold

Issue Involved
Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) has determined that some certified Model Year
2014 Heavy Duty Engine Platform engines will require the replacement of the oil
suction manifold.
Improved oil suction manifolds became effective with engines manufactured after
approximately April 30, 2014. Any model year 2014 engine manufactured between
March 1, 2014, and April 30, 2014, and has the previous oil suction manifold
installed may need a new oil suction manifold installed. Note that some engines
may already have been repaired and will be excluded from this program.
Replacement of the oil suction manifold may prevent failure of the oil suction
manifold, low oil pressure fault codes, and engine damage.
There are approximately 10,138 engines affected by this Field Service Campaign.

Owner Notification
Detroit Diesel will notify owners of equipment incorporating engines identified with
this Field Service Campaign. A copy of the owner letter that will be used by Detroit
Diesel is enclosed with this Field Service Campaign bulletin.

Distributor / Dealer Campaign Responsibility
Detroit Diesel repair facilities are to service all engines subject to this Field Service
Campaign. Field Service Campaign D18M3 is to be performed at no charge to
owners on all affected engines under the engine warranty or prior to July 20, 2019,
under the provisions of this Field Service Campaign.
Please use the appropriate steps, noted below, for indicating that Field Service
Campaign D18M3 has been completed.

ADDITIONAL REPAIRS
Dealers must complete all outstanding field service campaigns prior to
the sale or delivery of a vehicle. A Dealer will be liable for any
progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaign
before sale or delivery of a vehicle.
Owners will be liable for any progressive damage that results from
failure to complete campaigns on or after November 1, 2019.

Check the base label (Form WAR259) to see if Field Service Campaign D18M3
has been completed. The base label is usually located on the passenger-side
door about 30 cm (12 inches) below the door latch. If Field Service Campaign
D18M3 has been completed, no further work is needed. If base label is not
located on the passenger-side door, please affix label (Form WAR259) 30 cm
(12 inches) from the door latch.
Upon completion of Field Service Campaign D18M3, clean a spot on the base
label (Form WAR259), write the Field Service Campaign Number (D18M3) on a
blank, black completion sticker (Form WAR261), and attach it to the base label.

Corrective Procedure
1. Apply the parking brake, disconnect the batteries, chock the wheels, and perform
any other applicable safety steps.
2. Remove and save the old oil suction manifold. REFERENCE section “Removal of
the Oil Pump, Oil Suction Manifold, and Oil Lines” in the EPA07/10/GHG14
Engine Manual (DDC-SVC-MAN-0081).
3. Install the new oil suction manifold. REFERENCE section “Installation of the Oil
Pump, Oil Suction Manifold, and Oil Lines” in the EPA07/10/GHG14 Engine
Manual (DDC-SVC-MAN-0081).
4. Repairs are complete.
