This job aid shows the common sources of interior noise in the NSX, and how to repair them.
INSPECTION
Test-drive the client's vehicle over rough roads to identify the source of the noise. Use the table below to choose the
repair method for that noise.

REPAIR PROCEDURE A
Check these common areas if there is a squeak or rattle from the driver's side dashboard and instrument panel.
1. Remove the driver's A-pillar trim. Refer to the service information.
2. Check the felt at the base of the A-pillar. Replace the felt if it is missing or damaged.
•
Remove any old felt from the A-pillar trim.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply a 220 x 5 mm piece of 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N 06993-SA5-000).

3. Remove the driver's dashboard panel. Refer to the service information.
4. Check if felt is applied to all 11 clip holes as shown. Replace the felt if it is missing or damaged.
•
Remove any old felt from the dashboard.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply a 14 x 14 mm piece of 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N 06993-SA5-000).

5. Check for foam at the edge of the dashboard where it contacts the A-pillar trim as shown below. If the foam is
missing or damaged, replace it.
•
Remove any old foam from the dashboard.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply a 20 x 8 mm piece of 3 mm-thick foam tape (P/N 06990-SA5-000).

6. Turn over the driver's dashboard panel, and check if all of the 11 metal snap-fit clips are present and properly
installed. Replace any clips if they are missing or distorted.
NOTE
Check around the dashboard or driver floor area for any missing clips.

7. Check the underside of the dashboard panel, and make sure felt tape is properly applied to trim area as shown.
Cut and apply one 15 x 20 mm strip, one 35 x 10 mm strip, and one 42 x 10 mm strip of 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N
06993-SA5-000). Slit the 35 x10 mm strip as shown to clear the molded ridge behind the panel. Apply the felt strips
as shown.
NOTE
Make sure the added felt is not visible when the driver's door is open.
8. For vehicles with the carbon fiber driver's dashboard panel, refer to S/B 18-064, Noise from the Carbon Fiber
Dashboard Panel.

9. Driver's dashboard with Alcantara covering: Remove the meter visor from the dashboard panel. Refer to the service
information.
10. Check the felt on the guide pin as shown. Replace the felt if it is missing or damaged. Use 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N
06993-SA5-000).
11. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover. Refer to the service information.
12. Check if the metal snap-fit clips are present and properly aligned. Replace any clips if they are missing or distorted.

13. Check if felt is applied to the nine clip holes on the lower dashboard. Replace the felt if it is missing or damaged.
•
Remove any old felt material from the dashboard, if present.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply a 14 x 14 mm piece of 1 mm-thick felt tape, (P/N 06993-SA5-000).
14. Install all parts in the reverse order of removal.

REPAIR PROCEDURE B
Check these common areas if there is a squeak or rattle from the passenger's dashboard panel or the glovebox.
1. Remove the passenger's side A-pillar trim.
2. Check the felt at the base of the A-pillar. Replace the felt if it is missing or damaged.
•
Remove any old felt from the A-pillar trim.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply a 220 x 5 mm piece of 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N 06993-SA5-000).

3. Disconnect the 12 V battery.
4. Remove the passenger's dashboard panel. Refer to the service information.
NOTE
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and
procedures before doing repairs or service.
5. Check if felt is applied to all ten clip holes as shown. Replace the felt it is missing or damaged.
•
Remove any old felt from the dashboard.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply a 14 x 14 mm piece of 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N 06993-SA5-000).

6. Check for foam at the edge of the dashboard where it contacts the A-pillar trim as shown below. Replace the foam if
it is missing or damaged.
•
Remove any old foam material from the dashboard if present.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply a 20 x 3 x 8 mm piece of 3 mm-thick foam tape (P/N 06990-SA5-000).

7. Turn over the passenger's dashboard panel, and check if all of the 10 metal snap-fit clips are present and properly
installed. Replace any clips if they are missing or distorted.
NOTE
Check around the dashboard or passenger floor area for any missing clips.

8. Check the underside of the dashboard panel, and make sure felt tape is properly applied to trim area as shown.

9. Remove the clip that holds the passenger's A/C duct to the dashboard as shown. Check the felt between the bottom
of the dashboard panel clip hole and the top of the A/C duct clip hole. Replace the felt if it is missing or damaged.
•
Remove any old felt from the dashboard.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply two 10 x 5 mm pieces of 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N 06993-SA5-000).

10. If there is a rattle from the glove box area, make sure felt is applied to the four clip hole locations that attach the
glove box. Replace the felt if it is missing or damaged.
•
Remove any old felt from the glove box.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply four 12 x 12 mm pieces of felt (P/N 06993-SA5-000) to the four clip hole locations that attach the
glove box.

11. Make sure there is felt tape applied to the foam stoppers on the glove box door. Replace the felt if it is missing or
damaged.
•
Remove any old felt from the foam stoppers.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Cut and apply two 8 x 12 mm pieces of 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N 06993-SA5-000) over the existing foam
stoppers in the glove box.
12. Install all parts in the reverse order of removal.
13. Connect the 12 V battery.

REPAIR PROCEDURE C
Check these common areas if there is a squeak or rattle from the driver's or passenger's door.
NOTE
If the rattle appears to be coming from the tweeter area, see Service News Article 17070C "Chatter or Rattle Near Left
or Right Door Tweeter".
1. Remove the door grip cover. Refer to the service information.
2. Check that felt is properly applied at the edges as shown. The felt prevents the plastic trim and leather from making
noise. Replace the felt with 1 mm-thick felt tape (P/N 06993-SA5-000) if it is missing or damaged.

NOTES
•
When applying the felt, make sure it is not visible when the handle is installed.
•
Before installing the door grip cover, make sure all of the metal clips securing the handle grip cover are properly
installed and undamaged. Replace any missing or damaged clips.
3. Remove the door panel. Refer to the service information.
4. Make sure the tweeter harness clip is insulated properly with foam tape. Replace the foam tape if it is missing or
damaged.
•
Remove any old felt from the harness clip.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Insulate the harness clip with 3 mm-thick foam tape (P/N 06990-SA5-000). Both plastic tabs on the harness clip
should be insulated so it does not contact the door skin.
5. Install all parts in the reverse order of removal.

REPAIR PROCEDURE D
Check the floor harness insulation if there is a squeak or rattle from the headliner area behind the driver's seat.
1. Remove the A-pillar trim, and lower the rear section of the headliner. Refer to the service information.
2. Check that foam is properly applied to the harness as shown. If the foam is missing or damaged, replace it.
•
Remove any old foam from the harness.
•
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
•
Insulate the harness with 3 mm-thick foam tape (P/N 06990-SA5-000). Cut a 100 x 50 mm piece of foam, and
wrap the harness as shown.
NOTE
The harness feeds into a rigid plastic tube near the clip. Try to center the foam at the edge of the plastic tube.
3. Install all parts in the reverse order of removal.
