PROCEDURE

1.1.

Park the vehicle on an even surface with transmission in neutral (N).

1.2.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF position and engage the parking brake.

1.3.

Set the master control switch in the STOP position (see figure 1).

Removal of auxiliary heater fuel filter
1.5.

The auxiliary heating device is accessible through the auxiliary heating device access door, at the rear of the
vehicle,on the street side (see figure 3).

NOTE

While replacing the filter, make sure to close the supply valve on the filter head.
WARNING

Before removing the nuts and bolts, take the necessary precautions to prevent the support from swinging
downward suddenly and freely.
1.6.

To prevent fuel leaks, the ball valve PN N24140 on the inlet of the primary filter should be closed when
changing fuel filters.

1.7.

Remove and discard the elbow PN 0444040, nipple PN 0443978 and filter assembly PN N12950. Make sure
the system is not pressurized (see figure 4).

1.8.

Disconnect the fuel supply hose with 45 degree fitting connected from the bulkhead fitting and cover with a
cap to avoid leakage and draining of the tank.

1.9.

Remove the ball valve connecting the bulkhead fitting from the filter side and bulkhead fitting (do not discard
needed later).

Installation of auxiliary heater fuel filter
1.10.

Assemble the fuel filter PN N98779 to the fuel filter head PN N98778. Make sure fuel filter is filled with diesel
fuel before installing it and tighten it on the mounting head (see figure 5).

1.11.

Fix the adapters PN N60469 (2x) to 1/2'' NPT ports (2x) of fuel filter head PN N98778 and Fix the 90 degree
elbow PN 501335 (1x) to the adapter PN N60469 fixed to the outlet port of the fuel filter assembly. All NPT
fittings are hand tighten and 1.5 turns with the wrench (see figure 5).

1.12.

Install previously removed bulkhead fitting to the adapter PN N60469 fixed to the inlet port of the fuel filter
assembly. Remove and discard the nut from the bulkhead fitting (see figure 5).

NOTE

When mounting the fittings PN N60469 (2x) and PN 501335 (1x) on the filter, Loctite 565 PN N37086 should
be used.
1.13.

Install the fuel filter assembly with the fittings to the mounting bracket PN N98827 using screw PN N23126
(4x) and washer PN N56728 (4x). Screws are not be tighten yet as the mounting bracket needs to be moved
for adjustment (see figure 5).

1.14.

To mount the new fuel filter assembly with mounting bracket to the frame, use existing bulkhead fitting hole
to properly position the assembly before marking (see figure 6).

1.15.

Mark the drill position and drill through the 2 holes of mounting bracket using a 7 mm drill bit (see figure 6).

1.16.

Install the Mounting bracket with fuel filter assembly to the frame using screw PN N24104 (2x), washer
PN N16646 (2x) and nut PN N44890 (2x). Make sure the mounting bracket is fixed rigidly to withstand the
vibration. Torque to 9.5 NM (+/- 1) (see figure 7).

1.17.

Tighten the screws PN N23126 (4x) to torque 33 NM (+/- 3) (see figure 7).

1.18.

Install 45 degree fitting (with ball valve) of supply hose on the bulkhead fitting (see figure 7).

1.19.

Reinstall the removed hoses (along with the fittings) on each side of the fuel filter and open the valves of
fuel line.
NOTE

When mounting the 45 degree fitting use Loctite 565 PN N37086.

1.20.

Start the engine, make sure there are no leaks.

1.21.

Before returning the bus to service, test and restart the system by following the instructions below.
1.21.1. Use the test function of the auxiliary heating system.
1.21.2. Activate the auxiliary heater ignition request in the rear engine control box in the engine compartment.
1.21.3. Operate the system until combustion is constant and there is no ignition cut-off. At least 5 to 10
minutes. Restart the sequence if necessary.

1.22.

Set the master control switch in the ON position.

1.23.

Set the battery disconnect switch in the battery compartment to the ON position.

1.24.

Return the bus to service.
