SITUATION
The sunroof does not move, and the vehicle has no faults stored related to the sunroof.
CAUSE
A software error in the FZD (Roof function center).
CORRECTION
Until the release of ISTA 4.20.1x (I-level 19-11-510, estimated availability November 2019 pending
verification), replace the FZD. After ISTA 4.20.1x is released, update the vehicle software to the latest ILevel.
PROCEDURE
1. Perform a vehicle test and work through any associated fault driven test plans.
2. Are faults stored in relation to the sunroof?
Yes: Continue diagnosis, this bulletin does not apply.
No: Continue to step 3.
3. Disconnect the FZD wiring harness, wait 2 minutes, then reconnect. Retest sunroof operation.
Does the sunroof now work correctly?
Yes: Continue to step 4.
No: Continue diagnosis, this bulletin does not apply.
4. Is ISTA 4.20.1x available?
Yes: Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.20.1x (I-Level 19-11-510) or higher. ISTA 4.20.1x is expected
November, 2019.
Always connect a MINI-approved battery charger/power supply (SI M04 08 09) when performing
programming.
No: Replace the FZD following repair instructions REP 61 31 043 “Replace and install roof switch
center”.
PARTS INFORMATION

Refer to AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.
During the same workshop visit, if a vehicle also requires another Technical Campaign or repair that also
includes programming and encoding the control units, the programming procedure may only be invoiced
one time.
Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units (RO and Claim Comments Required)
The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do
not have the latest software i-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this programming
procedure:
Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in
this bulletin with the applicable AIR labor operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments
section.
For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:
When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work
using the applicable defect code and labor operations in AIR (including diagnosis with separate
punch times).
