SITUATION
During programming, several aborts can occur in the head unit NBT EVO (HU-H2):
The CID screen may light up blue when this occurs
A battery reset is not successful in restoring head unit operation
CAUSE
Software error in the Bootloader file (BTLD) of the head unit.
CORRECTION
Run the programming Special Measure Service Function that comes up in the measures plan.
If the ABL Test Plan is not available in programming, use ISTA to run the ABL.
If the ABL does not restore operation, an additional two-step process will be required to restore head unit
operation:
First set vehicle up for IRAP so the BTLD file can be rewritten into the head unit.
Then after IRAP, connect again to ISTA, if head unit is not on measures plan then manually
select it for programming. Then allow ISTA to finish the programming.

Run the programming Special Measure Service Function "Programming abort in the head unit" that comes
up in the measures plan after the Head Unit fails programming. Follow the special on screen prompts.
If the ABL Test Plan is not available in programming, use ISTA to run the ABL. This ABL test plan can also
be found:

If the ABL does not restore operation, the vehicle is equipped with option 609 Navigation, and the vehicle is
produced after 11/1/2018- submit a TSARA case for IRAP support
Always connect a BMW
-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) when performing
programming.
The IRAP team will flash the head unit with a revised BTLD file.
After the IRAP session, connect vehicle to ISTA 4.17.1x or higher, and complete the programming.

one time.
Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units
The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do
not have the latest software i-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this programming
procedure:
Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this
bulletin with the applicable AIR labor operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments
section.
For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:
