DESCRIPTION
The ESPAR auxiliary fuel fired heater service kit for BE CE V8 buses (Kit part number 2592385C91) is used for
added heating capacity in cold weather conditions. The system uses the existing fuel and electrical power supply
from the vehicle. The kit contains an ESPAR Hydronic D5 fuel fired heater, the parts required for installation in the
bus, and installation instructions. The following informational sections are discussed in this SFN:

II. Essential Service Tools
There is a diagnostic unit and adapter/pigtail that are recommended. International is strongly encouraging dealers
who have customers ordering the ESPAR coolant heater feature to invest in the following tools:

They are both used for reading, displaying and deleting fault code saved in the electronic control unit of the
ESPAR coolant heater (Hydronic D5). Diagnostic instructions and Fault Code information are listed within the
manual above.
International has chosen not to direct ship these two tools that are readily available in the marketplace. Dealers
are, however, expected to have the tools available so customer vehicles can be promptly and properly repaired.
Please order these tools for your shop if you could be performing repairs to these heaters.

NOTA:
These tools can also be used for reading and deleting fault codes in the electronic control of the ESPAR
heaters installed in the 9000i.

It has been decided to allow submission of T-Times for the ESPAR Hydronic D5 fuel fired heater.
IV. Warranty
Warranty Coding Manual (CTS-1025) - The Warranty Coding Manual is being updated with a new noun code for
the auxiliary fuel fired heater under group codes 19000/19020.

VII. Service FAQs
Does this unit affect normal service and maintenance procedures of the cooling system?
No, the ESPAR heater will be located low enough on the frame rail that bleeding is not required. However, if the
ESPAR system is disconnected for any reason, there is a bleed screw on the unit for bleeding the air out (item 16
on page 5 of the installation/troubleshooting/parts manual - link below) shows the location of the bleed screw.

Does the unit have any cut-off/cut-out features?
Yes, the control unit, temperature sensor, overheat sensor and flame sensor continually monitor heater functions
and will shut down the heater in case of a malfunction. In addition, there is an inertia switch that shuts off the
power if the bus exceeds a preset inertia setting.
If the system is not getting power and all the fuses are good, check the inertia switch. The inertia switch is located
in the Hydronic D5 box mounted on the frame rail in the same side the coolant lines are routed through. To reset
the inertia switch, push in the button on the top of the switch.
Are there instructions on how to install the ESPAR fuel fired heater kit?
Yes, the instructions are included in the service kit listed in Section V above.
