SUBJECT: Stemco Wheel Seals

This service bulletin supersedes bulletin 455.
Stemco requests that all wheel seals be returned to Longview, TX or Mississauga, ON as part of
their claim review process but more importantly as part of their goal of continuous improvement.
These inspections allow Stemco to perform failure analysis and to spot trends in failure modes
that can ultimately lead to product and/or process improvements.
Due to low volumes of wheel seals available for analysis Stemco requests that for the period of
the next six months that all replaced wheel seals are returned to Stemco for inspection.
All failed seals should be returned for vendor analysis to one of the following addresses:
In the United States:

Each part should be tagged with the VIN and include a copy of the work order or repair
invoice. This gives Stemco information for tracking of the parts and the warranty claim (trailer
VIN, claim number and dollar amount of the claim).
It is a requirement that both the seal and the seal ring be returned for analysis. Stemco inspects
the wear pattern on the seal ring as part of the analysis to determine the cause of failure.
Without the ring they can not accurately determine the cause of failure and will deny coverage of
the claim.
To reiterate the criteria for coverage of Stemco oil seal claims:
Part must include seal and seal ring.
Part should be tagged with the VIN and include a copy of the repair work order or
invoice
Part must be found to be defective
Stemco’s warranty coverage for the Platinum Performance Plus package is five years
from the date of manufacture and covers one man hour labor plus the associated parts
to replace the seal. No consequential parts or labor are covered.
