A customer may bring their vehicle to the dealer with a complaint of an SES light on, a “Service Transmission Now,
Unable to Shift Soon” message or possibly the vehicle will not shift out of park at times. Upon diagnosis the
Condition
technician will find codes P07BE or P17F3 in the Chassis Control Module (CCM). If neither of these two codes are
set this PI does not apply.
The Park Button Switch has two internal sensors. If the driver is not pressing the park button switch straight down
in the center when shifting into park there may be a mismatch between the sensors causing these codes to set.
Cause
Also if a customer drives with their hand resting on the shifter in such a way that they are inadvertently pressing
the park switch lightly while driving these codes may set.

Correction:
There is updated software available to address this concern. If the fault is current follow SI diagnostics for the code that is
set. If the fault cannot be duplicated or is very intermittent and the vehicle was built between the build dates shown above
reprogram the Chassis Control Module (CCM) with the latest software available. This will resolve the concern for the majority
of vehicles. If the vehicle was built after the build dates shown or the customer returns with the same concern, test terminals
at S3 Transmission Shift Lever, K38 CCM and in line connectors for circuits 2629, 2630, 2631 and 2632 and repair as
necessary. Advise the customer that pressing the park switch squarely in the center when shifting into park and avoiding
resting their hand on the shifter while driving should greatly lessen the occurrence of this issue. If condition continues and
no cause can be found an updated shift knob is now available.
