SUBJECT:

COMBINATION TSB / SERVICE ACTION: COOLANT
LEAK – OBC INLET HOSE DETACHING (SA365)

 NOTICE
This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. New/revised
sections of this bulletin are indicated by a black bar in the margin area.
This bulletin provides the procedure to install an onboard charger (OBC) quick disconnect
spacer on some 2018-2019MY Niro (DE PHEV) vehicles, produced from March 21, 2018
through August 22, 2018, which may experience the OBC coolant inlet hose detaching. If
detached, the following Hybrid System/Refill Inverter Coolant Warning(s) and/or HV DTCs may
set: P0A93, P0A3C, and/or P0A3E. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to install a spacer at
the OBC coolant inlet hose. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included
in the list of affected VINs.
DTCs:
P0A93: Inverter ‘A’ Cooling System Performance
P0A3C: Drive Motor ‘A’ Inverter Over Temp
P0A3E: Generator Inverter Over Temp
For vehicles not on the Affected Vehicles list, but still experiencing the issue described above,
perform the procedure outlined in this bulletin and submit a warranty claim per “customer
concern” (Standard TSB) claim information on page 5.

 NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed
during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the
warranty period will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service → Warranty Coverage →
Warranty Coverage Inquiry → Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service
Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs → Not Completed Recall
→ Recall VIN → Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

Service Procedure:
1. With the vehicle raised on a lift, remove
the engine under cover (A).

Ensure the OBC inlet hose (B) is fully
installed.

vehicle for demonstration purposes only.

3.

Carefully spread and install the spacer
(C) over the pipe (D), as shown.
Note: Spacer is not directional.

spacer (C) too much as it may
crack.

Using needle nose pliers, carefully push
the spacer (C) into the inlet hose (B)
while slightly rotating the hose side to
side until the spacer (C) is seated behind
the light blue notch (D).

Be careful not to damage or
crack the spacer when installing
it into the hose.

Ensure the spacer is seated
behind the notch (D). The spit
(marked in blue) of the spacer
(E) should be behind the center
of the notch as shown.

Firmly pull on the OBC inlet hose (B) and
ensure it is fully installed and latched.

 NOTICE
Do NOT fully disconnect the
OBC inlet hose (B). If it
detaches, quickly reinstall to
prevent coolant loss.

Top off the coolant level and perform the
bleeding procedure by referring to the
“Hybrid Motor System → Coolant
(Inverter) → Repair procedures” chapter
in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.

7.

Ensure there is no further coolant leak at
the OBC inlet hose (B) area and reinstall
the engine under cover.

Verify proper operation of the vehicle.
