Check Left A Pillar

This is to notify you of a Service Campaign launch regarding the left A-pillar in 239 Model Year (“MY”) 2019 SLC-Class (172 platform)
vehicles. Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on August 16, 2019.

Background
Daimler AG ("DAG"), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain
Model Year (“MY”) 19 SLC-Class (172 platform) vehicles, the left A-pillar on the longitudinal
member might not have been installed according to current production specifications. It is
possible that a crack or indentation might have occurred in the sheet metal during the production
process.
MBUSA will conduct a Service Campaign. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the
left A-pillar on the longitudinal member of the affected vehicles and, if necessary, they will
create a PTSS case for the affected vehicles.

Check left A-pillar on longitudinal member

Daimler AG ("DAG"), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model
Year (“MY”) 19 SLC-Class (172 platform) vehicles, The left A-pillar on the longitudinal member might not
have been installed according to current production specifications. It is possible that a crack or
indentation might have occurred in the sheet metal during the production process. An authorized
Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the left A-pillar on the longitudinal member of the affected vehicles and,
if necessary, they will create a PTSS case for the affected vehicles.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
• Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously
repaired. Always Check VMI for any open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
• Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as
described.

Approximately 239 vehicle is affected.

Check/test procedure

1. Remove rear section of engine compartment lining.
For basic data, see AR61.20-P-1105W.

2. Check left A-pillar near inside of longitudinal member for crack formation (Figure 1).

a. If there is crack formation: Carry out work procedure.
b. If there is no crack formation: End measure.

The findings from the check/test procedure must be recorded in writing in the work order
and stored.
