Reason for this Quarantine Notice
Aston Martin has found that some vehicles built to federal market specification must have the blind spot monitor (BSM)
software updated. The (BSM) software update has an extended warning zone for the driver side only.
Do the workshop procedure that follows to update the (BSM) software and correct this problem.

Workshop Procedure
CAUTIONS:

CONNECT THE AMDS 2.0 EQUIPMENT TO AN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY WHEN YOU DO THE
PROCEDURE THAT FOLLOWS. IF THE LAPTOP BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE
SOFTWARE UPDATE, THE UPDATE CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MODULE.
YOU MUST CONNECT A BATTERY CHARGER TO THE VEHICLE BEFORE YOU DO DIAGNOSTIC
PROCEDURES. IF THE VEHICLE BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE PROCEDURE, THE
SOFTWARE UPDATE CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MODULE.

Notes:

Make sure that the AMDS 2.0 software has updated to the latest version. The AMDS 2.0 software will
need a good Internet connection (minimum broadband speed of 2 Mbit/second) to make sure that
the software is updated correctly.
A high output battery charger (minimum of 80 A) is necessary to meet the demand of the radiator
cooling fan. The battery charger must also be compatible with Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) type
batteries.

Insert the vehicle key in the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS). Refer to the Vehicle Owner’s Guide.

2.

Set the ignition to ON but do not start the engine.

3.

Connect the Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) to the vehicle by using the Diagnostic Link Cable (DLC).

4.

Start the AMDS 2.0 software and, if necessary, update to the latest version.

CAUTION:

DO NOT START THE ENGINE AFTER YOU HAVE UPDATED THE SOFTWARE FOR THE ENGINE
CONTROL MODULES. THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULES MUST SHUT DOWN FULLY BEFORE
YOU START THE ENGINE. IF YOU START THE ENGINE, IT WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY.

In AMDS 2.0 click the “DTC/OBD” button (refer to
Figure 1).

Select the “BSM_M” and “BSM_S” modules then
click the “OK” button (refer to Figure 2).

7.

Click the “Pt. Numbers” button and do a check of the
part numbers.
• If the software versions are not the same as
shown in Figure 3 do steps 8 thru 12.
• If the software versions are the same as shown in
Figure 3 no more work is necessary, go to step
13.

In the “ECU Flash App" window, check the BSM_M
module has the correct version of software installed
(refer to Figure 4).

9.

If the software has been updated, the variant coding
must be updated.
Click the “Get Coding from AML Server” then click
the “Save Coding to ECU(s)” button (refer to
Figure 5).

10. In AMDS 2.0 click the “DTC/OBD” button (refer to
Figure 6).

11. In the “DTC Read” window, click the Read DTC
button, (refer to Figure 7).

12. Check to make sure there are no diagnostic trouble
codes (DTCs) stored for the BSM_M and BSM_S
modules (refer to Figure 8).

13. Disconnect the (VCI) from the vehicle and shut down AMDS 2.0.
14. Set the ignition to Off.
