IF YOU CONFIRM
There is a static discharge from the fuel line causing a click or pop noise.
NOTE: The noise is more likely to:




Be heard from under the center of vehicle.
Occur more often on dry days.
Occur at regular intervals about every 30 seconds to 1 minute.

ACTION
Install the tether assembly as described in the SERVICE PROCEDURE starting on the next
page.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.

Locate the harness bracket located
between the fuel tank and fuel filter
housing (Stage 1).

Remove the two (2) 10 mm bolts
securing the harness bracket to the
frame.

Remove the harness clip from the
harness bracket.


harness clip to release it from the
harness bracket.

4.

Secure the harness bracket in a vise
to prepare for drilling.

5.

Measure 1 inch (25.4 mm) from the
bend and .75 inch (19 mm) from the
side of the harness bracket.
Mark

6.

Make a mark where the
measurements intersect.

7.

Using a 5 mm drill bit, drill a hole
where the mark was made in the
previous step.

8.

Reinstall the harness bracket to the
frame using the two (2) 10 mm bolts
removed in step 2.
NOTE: Torque to 5.5 N•m (.56 kg-m,
49 in-lb).

9.

Reinstall the harness clip into the
harness bracket.
IMPORTANT: Use the original hole for
the harness clip. Do NOT use the new
hole.

Install the clip into the tether.


The tether and clip are listed in the PARTS INFORMATION on the last page.

11.

Insert the tether with clip into the new
5 mm hole.

12.

Loosely wrap the Panduit tie strap
onto the fuel line indicated in
Figure 12.


The Panduit tie strap is listed in
the PARTS INFORMATION on
the last page.

13.

Fold the tether around to contact the
fuel line as shown in Figure 12 and
Figure 13.

14.

Insert the tether into the Panduit tie
strap.

 Make sure the tether is
contacting the area of the fuel line
shown in Figure 13.


ONLY use the Panduit tie strap
listed in the PARTS
INFORMATION on the last page
as it has a metal tab that is
required for this repair (see
Figure 8 on page 5).

Trim the excess material from the Panduit tie strap as shown in Figure 14.
