Subject: Corroded Battery Cables

Models Affected: Specific Freightliner New Cascadia vehicles manufactured
with sales datacode 290-1D3

Our records indicate that you are the owner of certain vehicles, and DTNA has decided to share
the following documentation with you.

This documentation applies to New Cascadia day cab vehicles with build dates at various
manufacturing plants ranging from May 2017 to December 2019 with a sales datacode of 290-
1D3.

IMPORTANT: This document is intended for use only for an “as needed” guide for vehicles
operating in conditions of extreme road salt. The current datacode of 290-1D3, Steel battery box
with enclosed tray, utilizes a pad on top of the batteries. This mentioned pad will be relocated
under the batteries to avoid moisture entrapment and resulting cable corrosion.

Battery cover relocation:

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the rear
tires.

2. See the diagram below. Note the pad, part number 66-01226-000:

3. Remove the battery hold-down bracket. Remove battery cables, beginning with the negative side and
inspect for corrosion:

If the battery cable jumpers are found to be excessively corroded, replace them as necessary with the same
part listed in module 281 in Parts Pro.

4. Remove battery cover pad part number 66-01226-000. Remove batteries. Ensure that the battery box
base is clean of debris, and place the pad on the battery box base. Reinstall the batteries over the top of
the pad.

4.1, While the batteries are removed, a best practice would be to verify the individual battery condition. See
service bulletin 54-278 for Powernet Troubleshooting Guide: Path, Alternator, and Starter.

5. Reinstall the battery box hold-down bracket, and install the batteries.
6. Reinstall the battery cables, installing the negative side last.

7. Reinstall the plastic battery box cover.
