LANE CHANGE WARNING: LIGHT ON EXTERIOR MIRROR
NO LONGER WORKS
MODEL
G29 (Z4 Roadster)

SITUATION
The Lane Change Warning (LCW) light on either one, or on both of the exterior (side view) mirrors no
longer illuminates. This also activates a CCM for “Driver Assistance system restricted” to be displayed
in the CID.

CAUSE
Faulty exterior mirror glass or wire connection.
The following faults are stored:

Right exterior mirror (LIN bus), lane change warning: faulty
Left exterior mirror (LIN bus), lane change warning: faulty

CORRECTION
Visual inspection of the mirror and wire connectors. Replace the respective components if observed to
be defective.

PROCEDURE
Perform a vehicle test and work through corresponding test plans.
If one or both of the LIN bus faults listed above is set, perform the following:

Remove the exterior mirror glass as outlined in repair instruction REP 51 16 026
Visual inspection of the mirror glass and wire connections.
o If a gap is visible on the upper edge and /or corrosion is visible on the connections,
then the mirror glass and connection must be replaced.

Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) when
performing programming.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556
instead of 00 00 006.
Refer to AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.
Work time labor operation codes 61 00 006 and 61 00 009 are not considered Main labor operations;
however, both do require individual punch times and explanations on the repair order and in the claim
comments section.
