Summary
This Technical Service Bulletin describes the verification and resolution of engines utilizing the Bosch
VE, VP-14 or VP-30 ReCon fuel injection pump with complaints of no start, low power, engine stall, and/or engine shutdown. An inspection during troubleshooting reveals that fuel pump driveshaft is fractured at end of keyway toward the fuel pump housing. This malfunction can occur due to fuel pump gear design that creates a high stress point on the back of the keyway on the pump driveshaft where the fuel pump gear and/or gear housing can become damaged.

Description of Change
Existing fuel pump gear, Part Number 3936021, has been obsoleted and superseded by
a new redesigned gear, Part Number 4932713.

4932713 to allow the gear to contact the driveshaft away from machined keyway.
Web holes on new fuel pump gear have been changed to help distinguish between
existing and new gears. See Figure 1 below.
Reason for Change
Engines utilizing the Bosch® VE, VP-14 or VP-30 ReCon® fuel injection pump have had
customer complaints of no start, low power, engine stall, and/or engine shutdown.
An inspection during troubleshooting reveals that fuel pump driveshaft is fractured at end
of keyway toward the fuel pump housing. This malfunction can occur due to fuel pump
gear design that creates a high stress point on the back of the keyway on the pump
driveshaft where the fuel pump gear and/or gear housing can become damaged.
Service Instructions
New fuel pump gear is a serviceable component by itself and is also included in newly
released fuel pump kits for available updated gear design kits.
