DESCRIPTION
This document will guide the user through repair direction to configure Transmission Control Module (TCM) to provide the
correct transmission gear range monitor value to the Premium or Base Electronic Gauge Cluster (EGC).
Navistar
has identified an incorrect TCM parameter configuration that was configured during vehicle end of line programming
which causes transmission gear range monitor to display dashes "--" (Figure 1) instead of transmission current range / gear
(Figure 2). International dealers who are authorized by Allison for TCM reprogramming may complete the repair below.
International dealers not authorized by Allison for TCM reprogramming must transfer the repair to an authorized Allison facility to
configure the TCM to allow the EGC to monitor transmission current range via J1939.

NOTE: The repair below only applies to MV vehicles built 3/28/2017 - 11/12/2018 equipped with Allison 2000 series
transmission.

PROCEDURE WHEN NOT ALLISON REPROGRAMMING CERTIFIED:

Bring vehicle into shop and park on a flat surface
Shift transmission into park or neutral, set parking brake, and install wheel chocks
Loosen TCM harness jack screw, remove connector from TCM
Remove TCM mounting bolts
Locate & transfer TCM to authorized Allison TCM reprogramming location
Configure TCM parameter; J1939 Broadcast: ETC2 Range Parameter Format (30210), from 4th Gen Compatible (0), to
5th Gen Format (1)
Install TCM mounting bolts
Install 80 Way harness connector
Tighten 8mm hex head jack screw to 2.0 - 3.2 Nm (18-28 LB-IN)
Remove wheel chocks
Return vehicle to service
