2019 :: Bay Star
DESCRIPTION

Due to the sofa, window shade, and valance set up in the Bay Star (3628 floorplan only) the
early production coaches with this floorplan (3) were shipped to the dealers with restricted
access to the egress opening above the front driver’s side sofa.
ISSUE

The current valance and shade restricts access to the egress window. The dealers must correct
this issue prior to retail sale of the affected coaches.
UNITS AFFECTED

Please refer to the attached population list for affected units and VINs.
CORRECTIVE ACTION

Contact your Service Account Manager to obtain authorization and to order parts. Follow the
attached instructions to remove and replace the shade and valance.

Shade and Valance Replacement for
2019 Bay Star 3628 (Select Coaches Only)
The purpose of this repair is to provide more room between the top of the sofa and the top of
window in case an emergency escape is necessary. The fastener mounted shade and valance will
be replaced, and the new valance will be clip-mounted and removable.

Removal
1. Remove the old valance and mounting brackets, and discard.
2. Remove the old shade and shade brackets, and discard.

Installation
3. Center the new shade over the window, and mark the bracket location. The brackets
should be centered approximately 2¼” from wall with two brackets near each end and
one in the center.
4. Install a ½”x3”x53” backer in the overhead cabinet for the shade clips. Pull or pry up the
false bottom inside the cabinet, being careful to avoid damage. Glue the backer in the
cabinet where the brackets will be placed, and use pin nails to hold it in place. The backer
may be cut into shorter lengths if needed.
5. Refasten the false bottom in the cabinet with pin nails.
6. Install the five shade
clips to the bottom
overhead where marked
using 10x¾” screws (part
#25756).
7. Install the new shade on
the clips, making sure all
of the clips are securely
latched in the shade.
8. Place the valance, or
measure and mark the
wall for Friction Catch
locations.
Fasten two Friction
Catches per side to the
sidewall using 8x1½”
screws (part #42229).

9. Put the valance in place, and secure them to the other side of
the Friction Catches using 8x½” screws (part #136072).
The valance is now fastened by four friction catches and can
be pulled off if an emergency exit is necessary.
Do not use additional fasteners in the wall or cabinets.

10. Take a picture of the finished shade
and valance after installation, and
submit it with the claim.
