SERVICE ACTION: LOCK THE DME FAULT MEMORY (F39,
F48)
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure
the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
MODEL
F39 (X2 Sports Activity Coupe)
F48 (X1 Sports Activity Vehicle)
Equipped with the B46O engine.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves approximately 21,020 vehicles produced March 1, 2018 to August 31, 2018.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as Open when checked either in AIR,
the Service Menu of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
SITUATION
The fault memory lock in Digital Motor Electronics (DME) control unit was not activated. An activated lock
would prevent the manual deletion of permanent fault codes.
CAUSE
The DME fault memory lock has not been set.
CORRECTION
Lock the fault memory using ISTA 4.14.2x or higher.
PROCEDURE
Lock the DME fault memory by performing the following test plan:
Select:
• Service functions
• Powertrain
• Engine Electronics
• Adjustment functions
• Locking status of the engine control unit
• Perform ABL: Checking the locking status of the engine control unit
Once the ABL has been started, select Carry out the vehicle check and follow the on screen instructions.
