This technical bulletin provides a procedure to replace the engine for vehicles that have the condition of Loud Noise, Malfunction Indicator Lamp Illuminated, and/or No Start with DTC P0016, P0017, P0018, or P0019 Set, due to a broken engine crank sprocket.

Condition
Some customers may comment on a loud noise, malfunction indicator lamp illuminated
and/or vehicle will not start.
During diagnosis a technician may find DTC P0016, P0017, P0018 or P0019 set in the
Engine Control Module (ECM).
Cause
This may be caused by a broken engine crank sprocket caused by incomplete machining.
Failure of the sprocket will cause the timing chain to stop moving or break.
Correction
Replace the engine assembly.

If you encounter a vehicle with the above concern and
the VIN is listed above, follow diagnosis referring to SI.
Once verified that the condition was caused by a
broken engine crank sprocket, replace the engine
assembly. Refer to Engine Replacement in SI.
