SERVICE ACTION: TELLURIDE (ON)
HEADLAMP INSPECTION (SA380)

SUBJECT:

This bulletin provides information on certain 2020MY Telluride (ON) vehicles, produced from
February 13, 2019 through March 30, 2019, which may exhibit intermittent or inoperative
Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) at the headlamps due to an internal connection fault. Follow the
procedure in this bulletin to inspect and, if necessary, replace the headlamp(s). Kia is
requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected vehicles in dealer stock only,
prior to delivery. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list
of affected VINs.

 NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed
during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the
warranty period will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service → Warranty Coverage →
Warranty Coverage Inquiry → Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service
Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs → Not Completed Recall
→ Recall VIN → Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

SERVICE ACTION: TELLURIDE (ON) HEADLAMP INSPECTION (SA380)

Inspection Procedure:
1. Start the vehicle and ensure the following
conditions are met:




Light switch in “AUTO”
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) OFF*
Only DRLs ON (no low/high beam or
turn signals)

*Note: If the EPB is activated, the DRLs
will not be fully illuminated.
2.

Leave the DRLs on for twenty (20)
minutes.
 If one or both DRL(s) is/are not
operating as designed, proceed to the
Headlamp Replacement Procedure
below.
 If both DRLs are operating as
designed, no further action is
required.

Headlamp Replacement Procedure:
1. Remove the front bumper (A) by referring
to the “Body (Interior and Exterior) →
Front Bumper → Repair procedures”
chapter in the applicable Shop Manual
on KGIS.

Remove the three (3) headlamp retaining
bolts.
Tightening torque:
86.79 – 121.51 lb.in (9.81 – 13.73 N.m,
1.0 – 1.4 kgf.m)

3.

Disconnect the harness retaining clip (B)
and the headlamp connector (C).

4.

Remove the headlamp assembly,
transfer the top trim piece, and replace
with a new. Be sure to connect the
headlamp connector (C) and harness
retaining clip (B).

5.

If necessary, repeat steps 2 through 4 for
the other headlamp assembly.

6.

Reinstall the front bumper (A) in the
reverse order of removal.

Verify proper operation of the headlamp(s) including DRLs, turn signals, and low and high
beams.

8.

Verify headlamp aiming and adjust as necessary by referring to the Headlamp Aiming
Procedure on page 4.

Headlamp Aiming Procedure:
1.

In a darker area, to ensure full visibility of lights from headlamp, park the vehicle on a flat
and leveled ground and approximately twenty-five feet (25’) from a wall to the center of
the headlamps (L).

2.

Ensure the vehicle has no passengers (empty) during this procedure.

3.

At the wall, measure upwards from the ground and place a strip of masking tape at the
specified measurement for both low beam (H1) and high beam (H2), according to the
headlamp type (halogen or LED).

4.

Turn the low/high beam adjuster (D)
clockwise or counter-clockwise until the
beam(s) aligns with the tape placed on
the wall.

5.

Ensure the replaced headlamp lighting
adjustments are aligned with the other
headlamp.

Any replaced headlamp will be on Mandatory Parts Return and collected/returned to
KMA for inspection and analysis as may be appropriate.
