Customer may comment on the front and/or rear panels of the hard-trifold tonneau cover
unlatching and popping open, while driving.

Cause

The cause of the condition may be that the original design of the tonneau front bulb seal
creates high compression between the latch and the rails, causing the panel to unlatch on
rough roads.

Order the service kit listed in the Part Table and following the Service Procedure below,
replace the front bulb seal, underside latch adjusters and retaining nuts with the new
design parts provided in the kit.

Service Procedure

1. With tonneau cover on vehicle, open the front cab
panel, and lay flat.

3. Using isopropyl alcohol, or ethyl alcohol. as a
cleaner, remove any residual tape from the corner
end caps (1), with a trim removal tool.

2. Find the front tonneau seal, and peel the seal
ends (1) off from both the driver and passenger
side corner end cap. Then slide the seal out from
the groove on extrusion.

Note: To act as a lubricant to aid installation, apply a
light coating of glass cleaner, or equivalent, to the first
60 cm (2 ft.) of the seal.

4. Install the new front lip seal (1), ensuring that
the seal anchor (2) mates with the extrusion
groove (3). Slide the seal across the full length of
the extrusion, and ensure the seal is centered on
the cab panel.

5. Peel the tape backing from each end of the seal,
and press the seal end (2) firmly onto the corner
cap (1). Hold 15 seconds to allow seal to bond.

6. Starting on either the driver or passenger side front
cab latch, remove the screw (1) and slide the
plastic closeout cover (2) out.

7. Remove 4 nuts and 4 washers (1). Remove the
latch plate (2) and U-shaped adjustment step (3)
and set to the side. A cable will remain attached to
latch.

9. Reinstall the U-shaped adjuster (2), and latch (1).

8. Replace the 2 lower adjusters with 2 new
adjusters (1) provided in the kit.

11. As a starting point, align the edge of latch (3), with
the edge of the plastic corner rib. Install the original
washers (1) and new nuts (2), provided in the kit,
and torque to 1 Y 9 lb-in.

10. In order to set latch the height to the maximum
allowable, push on the inboard standing tab, and
slide the U-shaped adjuster fully outward.

12. Slide the latch closeout cover (2) into extrusion,
and fully seat the screw (1).
13. Repeat steps #6 –12 on the opposite side front cab
latch.
14. Close the front cab panel, and check for proper
latch engagement. Ensure that each latch fully
engages the underbody rail on both sides; if not,
readjustment may be required.
15. Open the rear panel and starting on the driver
side rear latch, follow the same instructions in
steps #6 –12.

Caution: Use the correct fastener in the correct
location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct
part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread
locking compound or sealant are identified in the
service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint
surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect
fastener torque and joint clamping force and may
damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening
sequence and specifications when installing fasteners
in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important: Do not over torque, this may result in
damage to tonneau cover.

Important: For the rear passenger corner latch
only, the latch adjusters cannot be installed at
maximum height due to interference between the
closeout cap and binding post, which connects the
cable to the latch. The new latch adjuster must be
installed at 2 steps inward, when compared to the other
3 corners
16. Once rear driver side rework is completes, move to
the passenger side and follow the same
instructions in steps #6 –12, with one exception:

16.1. When reinstalling the U-shaped adjuster (2),
and latch (1), first push on the inboard
standing tab, and slide the U-shaped
adjuster fully outward.

Note: The 2 step adjustment noted below will drop the
latch approximately 2 mm (0.080 in.). Failure to do so
could impede latch function, which may result in the
rear cover not remaining closed.

16.2. Now, with holding down on the outboard end
to provide tensions, push the adjuster 2
steps inboard. You should be able to feel,
and hear an audible click, on each of the 2
steps.
16.3. Holding the U-shaped adjuster securely in
position, install the original washers (1) and
new nuts (2), and torque to 1 Y 9 lb-in.
17. Operate the rear panel and ensure that the latches
are fully engaging the underbody rail. If not, further
adjustment to the latches may be required to
ensure maximum engagement.
