DESCRIPTION
This document will guide the user through diagnosing complaints of steering noise in chassis equipped with dual steer.

SYMPTOM(s)
A noise or whine can be heard from the steering on low mileage vehicles equipped with Sheppard Dual Power steering systems.

DIAGNOSTIC STEP(s)
1. Verify if a hard steering or hesitation issue is present.
• If a hard steering or a hesitation issue IS present, please follow the Bleed Procedure for Dual Steering Gear Systems first.
IMPORTANT: Please make certain to keep the fluid level topped off while performing the bleed procedure.
• If NO hard steering or hesitation issue is present, proceed to step 2.
2. Make note of the fluid level in the reservoir at engine off. Start the engine, and note any change in level
• If the fluid level DROPS follow the Bleed Procedure for Dual Steering Gear Systems.
IMPORTANT: Please make certain to keep the fluid level topped off while performing the bleed procedure.
• If it does NOT drop, then proceed to the repair section.

REPAIR STEP(s)
If the complaint listed above is present, please follow the steps below first.

This procedure ONLY applies to chassis equipped with dual steer
systems. For any other steering concerns besides the symptom outlined
in this article, please consult the proper steering diagnostic manual.

1. Replace the steering filter using the Fleetguard HF35476 and retest for the complaint.
2. Release the unit if the complaint is corrected with the filter change.
3. If the problem persists, follow the drain the fluid guidelines in S05015 and fill with 15W-40.
