Technical Assistance Update

On October 7, 2012, an update will be made to the Technical Assistance (TA) portion of
ElsaWeb. This update is for background portions only and will not affect the user functionality.
The difference that you will see on Monday, October 8, 2012, is that the application will open in
a new window when clicking the TA button in ElsaWeb. ElsaWeb will remain open in the
background, and you will be able to use both ElsaWeb and the TA portion at the same time.

Feedback Corner

The feedback of the week is from Brandon regarding the wiring diagram for a 2010 Routan. He
says:
"For wiring diagram No.47/11 from radio C3 terminal 6 to module video screen C1 terminal
18, the wire color is wrong in the diagram. The wire color is actually Gray with a light blue
tracer. Also, from C3 terminal 7 to C1 terminal 19, the wire color is wrong. The actual color of
that wire is gray with an orange tracer."
This feedback was reviewed by the Service Information team and the wiring diagram was
updated to list the correct wire colors. Brandon included his full name and email address with the
feedback and will be receiving Generation VW Bucks for helping improve the quality of the
repair information.

Be aware that 2012 Passat vehicles are not equipped with the rain sensing windshield wiper
function. --G397 Rain/light recognition sensor is present on all 2012 Passat vehicles, but this sensor
is used only for auto headlamp function.

An inoperative fuel gauge after instrument cluster replacement with fault 00771 “Fuel level sensor G-” may be caused by gateway (address word 19) coding. To resolve concern, use Vehicle selfdiagnosis to code gateway to the same value already stored (coding value is usually 6). After
changing coding, cycle key and re-evaluate fuel gauge operation.

If you are unable to open the trunk for any reason, the rear seat backrest can be released from
inside the vehicle to access the emergency trunk release. First, use the valet key to open the cover
plate on the left side of the parcel shelf, as shown in illustration A. Next, insert a key in the slot at the
base of the opening and slide the key to the right until rear seat backrest latch releases, as shown in
illustration B. This procedure can also be found in the “Practical Tips” section of the vehicle Owner’s
Manual.
