VAS 5234 Setup

The VAS 5234 is a tool used to fill
and bleed brake systems on
Volkswagen vehicles.

This module will explain the setup
of the VAS 5234.

VAS 5234 Setup

Set a new can of brake fluid in place
and remove the sealing caps.

Install the large and small plugs in the
large and small holes.

Start with the filling lever in the "B™
position.

Next, insert the suction pipes through
the center of the large and small plugs
and push them all the way to the
bottom of the brake fluid canister.

VAS 5234 Setup

Connect the suction hose to the suction
pipe which runs through the large plug
on the brake fluid canister.

Connect the return hose to the suction
pipe which runs through the small plug
on the brake fluid canister.

Set the filling lever to position "A".

Connect the filling hose to the
connection marked “Self-Check".

Connect compressed, dry shop air
to the VAS 5234,

Asignal will sound.

Open the rear panel and tap (don't hold)
the Refill button to allow fluid to enter
the glass tube. Tap until the float in the
glass tube is just below the upper stop.

The signal will stop.
Note: If the Refill button is held down,

even for a short time, the unit
may overfill with fluid.

of the unit.

Disconnecting shop air will cause the
unit to stop circulating the brake fluid.

Use new brake fluid with part number B 000 700 A.

Brake Fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the ambient air, and should
always be stored in airtight containers.

Rinse off brake fluid spillages by using plenty of water.

Brake fluid must not come into contact with paint work, as it is very corrosive.

WARNING!

Make sure that a filling pressure of 1 or 2 bar (14.5 or 29 psi, as recommended by the correct
repair manual in VESIS) is not exceeded when filling brake fluid using the VAS 5234.

Brake fluid is poisonous.

Before using the VAS 5234 to bleed
the brake system, make sure:

+ The unit is connected to dry shop air

+ The unit is connected to dry shop air
+ The lever on the front is set to the
“B" position

This assures that no pressure is.
allowed to flow through the system.

Set the filling pressure with the
pressure knob in the rear of the,
VAS 5234 to either 1 or 2 bar,
depending on the vehicle.

The correct pressure for the vehicle
is detailed in VESIS.

Using the incorrect pressure can
cause air to be trapped in the system.
More pressure is not always better.

‘Switch on the vacuum to prepare for
suction of brake fluid from the master
cylinder.

Open the nozzle on the end of the
suction hose % turn, and extract as
much fluid as possible from the master
cylinder.

Note: The screen should never be
removed from the brake fluid
reservoir of the vehicle to avoid
debris contamination of the
brake fluid.

Some vehicles have a service port with
two separate tubes. Remove the small
cap covering the service ports and
loosen or remove the brake fluid cap.
Then, connect the siphon tube to each
of these tubes until the fluid stops
flowing.

Note: The screen should never be
removed from the brake fluid
reservoir of the vehicle to avoid
debris contamination of the
brake fluid.
