POWER WINDOW REVERSES WHEN CLOSING
MODEL
G29 (Z4 Roadster)
Produced from September 1, 2018 thru January 4, 2019

SITUATION
When closing either of the front windows, the windows will anti-trap and reverse when approaching the fully
closed position.

CAUSE
Software sensitivity of the front window anti-trap mechanism.

CORRECTION
1. Perform diagnosis with ISTA and work through the corresponding test module if necessary. If no faults are
found, proceed to step 2.
2. Program/encode the vehicle using ISTA 4.15.3x (I-Level 18-11-565) or higher.
Note: Parts replacement will not provide a solution to this situation.

PROCEDURE
1. Program/encode the vehicle using ISTA 4.15.3x (I-Level 18-11-565) or higher.
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) when performing
programming.

2. Fully raise the window several times to confirm that the original fault no longer occurs.

Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a Main labor operation. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair,
use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.
Refer to AIR/KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.
During the same workshop visit, if a vehicle also requires another Technical Campaign or repair that also
includes programming and encoding the control units, the programming procedure may only be invoiced one
time.
Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units
A. The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do not
have the latest software i-level. If one or more control module failures occur “during” this programming
procedure:
• Claim this “consequential” control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this bulletin with
the applicable AIR/KSD2 labor operations
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments section.
B. For control module failures that occurred “prior” to performing this programming procedure:
• When “covered” under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work using the
applicable defect code and labor operations (including diagnosis) in AIR/KSD2
Other Repairs
Under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty, if other eligible and covered work is performed as
a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and the related test plans, claim this work with the defect code and
labor operations in AIR/KSD2 that apply (including diagnosis with separate punch times, as applicable).
