This PI was superseded to update Condition/Concern. Please discard PIP4432D.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition / Concern
Some customers may have a concern of a transmission uid leak. This condition may be mistaken for a leak from
the transmission output shaft seal or transmission and or transfer case vent tube.
If necessary use automatic transmission uid dye to help isolate the source of the leak. When diagnosing this
concern, be sure to thoroughly clean the area and road test the vehicle to verify the source of the leak.

Recommendations / Instructions
If the uid leak is isolated to the slip yoke welch plug, in a 4wd utility (SUV) and all pick-up models replace the slip
yoke and in a 2wd utility (SUV) replace the complete prop shaft assembly as the slip yoke is not serviced
separately due to the mass inertia dampener on the slip yoke.
If the vehicle is a 2wd and if the leak is isolated to the output shaft seal (item 26), replace the complete output
housing extension assembly (item 24) and gasket (item 23). The housing will come complete with the seal and
bushing.
If the vehicle is a 4wd and the leak is isolated to the seal, it will only be necessary to replace the transfer case
output shaft seal.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is
resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
