PCV Valve Thread Sealant Change

INTRODUCTION:
This Service Information bulletin announces a change to the required thread sealer used when
installing the PCV valve into the engine block. The previously used material may solidify and cause
damage to the engine block threads during PCV valve removal.

A production change to utilize the new sealer was made per the table below:

PART INFORMATION:
The new sealer is ThreeBond 1217H, SOA868V9610 (or equivalent as listed in the Recommended
Materials TSB 01-167-08R).
SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION:
REMINDER: Customer satisfaction and retention starts with performing quality repairs.
Aside from the sealer recommendation, the service procedures for replacing the PCV valve remain
unchanged. Always refer to the applicable Service Manual and review the full requirements of the
repair being performed. The Service Manual procedures contain information critical to performing
an effective repair the first time and every time. This includes but is not limited to: important
SAFETY precautions, proper inspection criteria, necessary special tools, required processes and
related one-time-use parts needed for a complete and lasting repair.

NOTES:
• Always clean the threads of the new PCV valve before applying sealer (along with the
mating surface of the cylinder block where applicable).
•

If the threads in the block are damaged and not serviceable, shortblock replacement will be
required.

•

If the threads are serviceable, always use proper precautions when cleaning them to prevent
debris entering the engine assembly.

•

Torque the new PCV valve to 23 Nm (17.0 ft. lbs.).
