DESCRIPTION
After ignition Key OFF, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) may experience memory loss and may
not allow engine restart.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
WARNING: To prevent personal injury, and / or death, or property damage, park vehicle on
hard flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and install wheel chocks to prevent the
vehicle from moving in both directions.
WARNING: To prevent personal injury, and / or death, or property damage, if the vehicle must
be raised, do not work under the vehicle supported only by jacks. Jacks can slip or fall over.
WARNING: To prevent personal injury and / or death, always wear safe eye protection when
performing vehicle maintenance.
WARNING: To prevent personal injury, and/or death, or property damage, keep flames,
sparks, or other heat sources away from the vehicle and do not smoke while servicing the
vehicle’s batteries. Batteries expel gases which may cause an explosion resulting in personal
injury / death, or damage to property, avoid contact with any heat sources.
WARNING: To prevent personal injury, and / or death, or property damage, remove ground
cable from negative terminal of main battery before disconnecting or connecting electrical
components. Always connect ground cable last.
1. Park vehicle on a flat surface with the wheels straight ahead.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brake.
3. Turn vehicle ignition to Key OFF position.
4. Place chocks in front of and behind the wheels.
5. Connect Service Ranger.
6. Create a Service Activity Report (SAR).
7. Review SAR data to verify that two or more of the DTCs listed above are set Active.
a. If two or more faults are set active, proceed to Step 8.
b. If one fault or zero faults are set active, proceed to Step 9.
NOTE: Open a separate claim section for TCM replacement.
8. Replace TCM. Refer to TRTS0990 Service Manual for TCM removal and installation procedures.
9. Re-connect Service Ranger.
10. Select GO TO > PROGRAMMING.

11. Update the TCM Software to 5567511.
12. Select GO TO > CONFIGURATION. The Configuration page appears.
13. In the column on the left, select OPTIONS.
14. In the NEW VALUE field for Transmission Serial Number, input the transmission serial number.
15. Change the other configuration parameter settings to match original TCM settings. (Contact Eaton at
1-800-826-4357 for original parameter settings information.)
16. Set START ENABLE TYPE to RELAY.
17. Select APPLY and follow the on-screen prompts.
18. Select the CALIBRATION tab.
19. Select the appropriate OEM vehicle application calibration.
20. Select APPLY and follow the on-screen prompts.
21. Select GO TO > SERVICE ROUTINES.
22. For Grade Sensor Calibration, select START and follow the on-screen prompts.
23. If vehicle is equipped with a T-handle shift device, select START for TRS Shift Device Calibration and
follow the on-screen prompts.
24. Start engine and allow it to idle for 15 minutes.
25. Turn ignition to Key OFF position and wait one minute.
26. Turn ignition to Key ON, Engine OFF position and select GO TO > FAULT CODES.
NOTE: If active fault codes are still present, please file diagnostics and repair in a separate claim
section.
a. If there are active faults, refer to TRTS0990 Procision Troubleshooting Guide for fault resolution.
b. If there are no active faults, proceed to Step 27.
27. Turn ignition to Key OFF position.
28. Disconnect Service Ranger.
29. Remove wheel chocks.

Recalibrate TCM

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE
Expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the normal manner, making reference to
Authorized Field Change Number 18905.
Section 7 of the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual contains further information related to the submission
and processing of AFC / Recall claims.
As with all claim submissions, items acquired locally must be submitted in the “Other Charges” tab. The cost
of any bulk items (such as a bag of cable tie straps, roll of wire, barrel of oil, or tube of silicone) should be
prorated for the cost of the individual pieces / amount used during each repair.
To ensure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for 18905 activity must be
submitted by 09 January 2020 or within the normal warranty period for the vehicle, if after 09 January 2020.
