CONDITION SUMMARY:

SITUATION:
A flashing DRIVE (D) on the Transmission Control Switch (TCS) after a period of coasting (traveling
downhill, etc.) and the transmission may default to a pre-selected gear. When this occurs, the ignition
may need to be cycled OFF and ON or PARK (P) may need to be selected before being able to select
the DRIVE (D) position again. A MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) will also be displayed on the
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) P0716-64 may also be stored in the
Transmission Control Module (TCM).
CAUSE:
This may be caused by a TCM software error.
ACTION:
Should a customer express a concern, follow the Diagnostic Procedure below.

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE:

CAUTIONS:
A Jaguar Land Rover-approved battery power supply must be connected to the vehicle
startup battery.
All ignition ON/OFF requests MUST be performed; failure to do these steps may cause
damage to vehicle control modules.

NOTE:
Use the Jaguar Land Rover claims submission system for Field Service Action program eligibility
requiring a Transmission Control Module (TCM) software update. If eligible, perform and claim
the update as per that program using the latest SDD software.

Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved battery power supply to the vehicle startup battery.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment must be loaded with
SDD155.03 Software Management Pack v308 (or later).
Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a
new session.

Follow all on-screen instructions.

If the hyperlink is not available:
1 Select Diagnosis from the Session Type screen.
2 Select the Selected Symptoms tab and then select:
Powertrain - Automatic transmission and transaxle - Automatic transmission
and transaxle symptoms - Gear selector malfunction - No drive in any selected
position or
Powertrain - Automatic transmission and transaxle - Automatic transmission
and transaxle symptoms - Gear selector malfunction - Gear position display
flashing or
Electrical - Instruments - Warning lamps - Engine malfunction lamp - Lamp
illuminated
3 Run and close the Datalogger tool to reveal the 'Extras' tab.
4 Select the Extras tab.
5 Select Run to perform the 'Configure existing module - Transmission control
module' option.

Follow all on-screen instructions until the application completes successfully.
1 When prompted, select the Clear DTCs option following completion of the software
download.
2 Follow the on-screen instructions until the application finishes successfully.

Exit the current session.
1 Select the Session tab.
2 Select the Close Session option.

Disconnect the diagnostic equipment and battery power supply from the vehicle.
