Repair instructions
Technical background
The following scenarios may be evident:
Engine warning light illuminated within the instrument cluster and/or the presence of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s) within the Engine
control module (J623)
•
P04F000: EVAP system high pressure purge line performance
•
P28C300: EVAP System High Load Purge Line "B" Performance
The scenarios are related to mismatched terminal locations at the time of harness manufacture
Remedy
Swapping of (4) terminals/cavities within the Engine control module (J623) connector (T56ai) is required
The components affected are as below:
•
G804 Pressure sensor for activated charcoal filter system
•
G850 Tank pressure sensor 2

Please ensure that all affected vehicles are checked and repaired immediately. Where applicable you should also inform your new and used car sales
departments so that the vehicles affected can be checked and repaired immediately and not just before sale.

The scenarios are related to mismatched terminal locations at the time of harness manufacture
Check
If the vehicle is not already listed as repaired in “Repair history" (in Elsa pro), check for the presence of a silver paint completion mark on the Engine
control module plug as Figure 1
For extra confirmation carry out a visual check to confirm the terminal/cavity locations are correct as per Figure 8, if not correct carry out the onward
instructions

In the event that the completion mark is present and the terminals are in the correct location no further action is required, please submit a Warranty
claim via SAGA for a total of 10 Time units, this will ensure the VIN is removed from the applicability list

Work
The Engine control module -J623- is located in the top right hand side of the engine bay (as viewed from the front of the vehicle)
1) Ensure the ignition is switched off
•
Remove the engine control module (J623) - Refer to Elsa pro Rep.Gr 24 - Engine control module (J623) - To remove and fit
CAUTION: Ensure the battery is disconnected as per Elsa pro instruction as the cooling fan can start to operate when the Engine
control module plugs are disconnected
When the Engine control module is removed ensure it is stored in a clean/dry location
Ensure no water enters the disconnected control module plugs
•
Locate the green engine control module plug and carefully remove the micro cable tie (Figure 3) Note the location of the cable tie prior to
removal

Using a suitable tool manoeuvre the cover location tangs shown in Figure 4 and remove the cover NOTE: Take care not to damage the cover
and location tangs

Carefully remove the keeper bar as shown in Figure 5 NOTE: Take care not to drop the keeper bar

2) Referring to Figure 6, locate cavity numbers 1, 2, 5, 6

Note the orientation of the incorrectly located terminals prior to removal in particular 2 and 6 as both wires are White

2 - White
5 - Blue

NOTE: In the event that the pins are not as shown in Figure 6 and ARE as Figure 8 no further action is required
3) Carefully release any excess harness tape to allow access, taking care not to damage the wires within the harness
4) Referring to Figure 7 and working from the inner face of the plug locate cavity 5
CAUTION: The next part of the process describes how to remove the terminals from the block, extreme care MUST be used when removing the
terminals, ensure all instructions are followed.
•
Using WT 10079-13 with extreme care and absolute minimal pressure gently push the green plastic ‘L’ shaped tang in the direction shown in
Figure 7 to release the terminal (NOTE The tangs are delicate) gently pull pin 5 out and away from the cavity, NOTE the orientation of the
terminal on removal

Repeat on cavity 6 (White)
•
Install(White) into cavity location 5, confirm the terminal is locked/located
•
Install (Blue) into cavity location 6, confirm the terminal is locked/located
5) Locate cavity 1
•
Using WT 10079-13 with extreme care and minimal pressure (NOTE The tangs are delicate) gently push the green plastic ‘L’ shaped tang whilst
gently pulling the terminal 1 out and away from the cavity NOTE the orientation of the terminal on removal
•
Repeat on cavity 2 (White)
•
Install (White) into cavity location 1, once fitted confirm the terminal is locked/located
•
Install (Red) into cavity location 2, once fitted confirm the terminal is locked/located
•
Carry out a visual check to confirm all terminals are correctly seated and located within the block
•
Apply new harness tape as required
Correct location once complete should be as Figure 8

6) Installation and reconnection of the Engine control module is the reverse of removal procedure
•
Clear the vehicle of any Diagnostic Trouble codes (DTC’s) associated with this procedure and complete the readiness code procedure, If the
EVAP system flag has not cleared then run the Tank leak diagnosis - DMTL (NAR vehicles only) routine, via Basic settings ensuring all on screen
prompts are followed
•
Apply a silver paint completion mark on the Engine control module plug as Figure 1
