FM RADIO STATIC HEARD BETWEEN 88 TO 97 MHZ

SITUATION
While driving, static can be heard on the FM radio band in frequencies between 88 and 97 MHz, even if
traveling away from high-voltage power lines and tall structures.

CAUSE
Electromagnetic interference caused by the electrically-powered auxiliary water coolant pump.

CORRECTION
Replace the auxiliary coolant pump.

PROCEDURE
Follow this troubleshooting guide:
1. Move the vehicle outdoors to receive a clear radio signal without overhead obstructions or high-power electric
lines nearby.
2. Is the static reproducible with the engine running?
NO – Do not follow this SI. Perform diagnosis of the vehicle using ISTA.
YES - If the static is reproducible with the engine running, check the part number of the auxiliary coolant pump.
If it is one of the part numbers below, the auxiliary coolant pump must be replaced:
• 11 51 8 679 885
• 64 11 6 834 923
• 11 51 8 671 654

Note: When replacing the auxiliary coolant pump, ensure
that it has a green dot (arrow) which indicates a revised
component.

3. Follow Repair Instructions REP 64 11 262 “Removing and installing/replacing the coolant pump”.
4. After installation of the new auxiliary coolant pump, bleed the cooling system.
• For all models except I12: Follow SI B17 01 10 "Proper evacuation and/or filling of cooling system after
repairs”
• For I12 only: Follow SI B17 02 18 "Proper coolant bleeding procedure"
5. Verify the absence of radio static interference on the FM band after moving the vehicle outdoors.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 64 11 922 instead of 64
11 262.
Refer to KSD2/AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.
Work time labor operation code 65 10 009 is not considered a Main labor operation; however, it does require an
individual punch time and an explanation on the repair order and in the claim comments section.
