DELIVERY STOP: N63R AND N63M ENGINE – CHECK
HIGH TEMPERATURE COOLANT SYSTEM FOR
CONTAMINATION
New information provided by this revision is preceded by this symbol

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the
next time the vehicle is in the shop.

SITUATION
The engine oil to coolant heat exchanger may have an internal leak resulting in engine oil contamination of the
high temperature cooling system.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Delivery Stop involves G12l G30 and G05 vehicles produced from June 29th 2018 to September 10th
2018.
Vehicles which require this Delivery Stop to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR,
the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

CORRECTION
Inspect the high temperature engine cooling system and replace the engine oil to coolant heat exchanger.

Refer to Repair Instruction 17 00 ... “Notes for working on the cooling system”.
Risk of scalding: only carry out repairs on the cooling system after the engine has cooled down!
1. Inspect the high temperature cooling system expansion tank (1) for contamination of engine oil.
If NO commination is found then go to step 2.
If commination is found then go to step 3.
2. If NO engine oil commination is found then replace the heat exchanger as per Repair Instruction 11 44
000 “Removing and installing, sealing engine oil to coolant heat exchanger” and refer to Repair
Instruction 17 00 008 ‘Draining and topping up coolant for high-temperature circuit”.
3. Only if engine oil contamination is found in the high temperature cooling system.
Replace the heat exchanger as per Repair Instruction 11 44 000 “Removing and installing, sealing engine oil to
coolant heat exchanger”.
Carry out the standard scope of service and refer to Repair Instruction 00 00 105.
Perform an oil service as per the Repair Instruction 00 00 252 “BMW engine oil service without supplementary
service”.
Fill the high temperature circuit with water only and flush it. Refer to Repair Instruction 17 00 008 “Draining and
topping up coolant for high-temperature circuit”. Repeat this procedure two times.
Fill the high temperature circuit with the proper mixture ratio of antifreeze and water a final time and bleed the
system as per refer to Repair Instruction 17 00 008 “Draining and topping up coolant for high-temperature
circuit”.

PARTS INFORMATION
Do not order any parts.
Monitor the Parts Matrix for ordering procedure.
Refer to the ETK and the applicable repair instructions for one-time use fasteners and/or component information
regarding additional or replacement screws, gaskets, and seals that need to be installed and claimed.

Overlapping Labor Procedure – Other Repairs
If invoicing the KSD2/AIR flat rate labor operation codes for other repair work results in overlapping labor, for
those flat rate labor operations that are affected, you are able to:
• Replace the stated KSD2 “FRU allowance” with a “reduced FRU value” to eliminate the overlapping labor.
For help in identifying the overlapping labor, please refer to the AIR FRU Plausibility Check (Overlapping Labor
Tool) that is located in the AIR Client.
Eligible other repair work being claimed under a different defect code will require separate punch times.
On the repair order and in the claim comment section, please identify and itemize those labor operations being
claimed with a “reduced FRU value.”

any vehicle covered by this notification until the delivery stop repair has been
performed. This means that centers may not legally deliver new motor vehicles to a
consumer until it is fixed or use/sell replacement equipment/parts subject to a delivery
stop. Note also that substantial civil penalties apply to violations of this law.
Also, you should not sell, lease or deliver any Certified Pre-Owned or used vehicles
subject to a delivery stop until the repair is completed.
