Summary
GROANING NOISE AT DOOR SILL DURING ENTRY OR EXIT. A groaning or creaking noise may be heard when getting into and out of the vehicle. This can occur if the driver or passenger leans on the sill trim for support. The pressure exerted on the sill trim can result in a groaning noise at the contact points between the vehicle body and the ribs on the sill trim.

SITUATION
A groaning or creaking noise may be heard when getting into and out of the vehicle. This can occur if the driver
or passenger leans on the sill trim for support.
CAUSE
The pressure exerted on the sill trim can result in a groaning noise at the contact points between the vehicle
body and the ribs on the sill trim.
CORRECTION
Apply sections of self-adhesive felt strip to the side sill and the door sill cover strip.
PROCEDURE

Procedure to repair i8 groaning noise at door sill while entering and exiting
A groaning or creaking noise may be heard when the driver presses against the sill trim (arrows) while
supporting themselves as they enter or exit the vehicle. Inspect both sides of the vehicle for noise, and
perform this procedure for one or both sides as needed.
1. Carefully remove the sill trim.
Refer to Repair Instructions 51 47 ...
“Removing and installing/replacing front
left or right cover on door sill cover strip”
Use special tool 00 9 325
2. Apply a length of self-adhesive felt strip
(P/N 54 13 7 181 349) along the sill.
3. Close-up shows how the felt strip goes over
the stiffening ribs.
4. Apply various felt strips as shown.
5. Reassemble the vehicle and confirm that no
noise is present on either side.
