Installing a Brake line retention bolts
Dear Collins Bus Corporation Customer
Date: October 30th, 2018
Subject: Pro master Brake Line Retention Install.
Models Affected: Collins Bus PH516WF-R109G.
Notes: This instructional document is intended to assist Collins Bus distributors, their
customers and/or service shops in the proper techniques for repair and maintenance.
Issues described in this document may not apply to all Collins Bus units. Authorized
technicians will be able to decide whether or not a unit with similar issues will benefit
from the provided information.
Details: Information contained in this document will assist you in installing the Brake
Line Retention Bolts on Collins Bus Model PH516WF-R109G. Please follow the
instructions provided with each picture for details on this potential issue and suggested
repair. NOTE: Installation of hardware may be performed without vehicle being raised.
Supplied Parts:
(2) Part # 444907 - “J” Bolt 5/16” X 3L threaded
(2) Part # 403294 - 5/16” Nut NC Hh Pltd
(2) Part # 403375 - 5/16” Lock Washer Pltd
(2) Part # 403323 - 5/16” Flat Washer SAE Pltd
(2) Part # 704141 - 5/16” Flange Nut Self-Lock Nylon
Tools needed:
½” Socket and or Wrench
Torque wrench
Picture showing passenger side rear Brake Line Retention bolt installed. NOTE: driver
rear will require a Brake Line Retention bolt installed as well.
1. Locate the bolt-mounting hole on the passenger side rear axle.
2. Assemble the provided parts: Thread the non-flanged nut onto the “J” bolt, and then
place the supplied lock washer and the supplied flat washer onto “J” bolt.
3. Insert assembled “J” bolt into mounting hole capturing the brake cable with the “J” hook.
Make certain the “J” bolt opening is facing towards the front of the vehicle.
4. Install the supplied flange nut onto the “J” bolt.
5. Tighten flanged nut and torque to 76 inch lbs. (6.33 ft. lbs.) NOTE: Make certain the “J”
bolt is straight forward to avoid twisting the brake line. Flange nut will be approx. flush
with “J” bolt threads.
6. Incorrect Assembly: Note the twist in the “J” bolt
Install the second supplied hardware on the driver’s side following the same instructions.
