The incorrect bolt 7C8639 is 75MM in length and the correct bolt
1152973 is 85MM in length. Refer to Image 1.1.1 in the attached Rework
Procedure.
Any Connecting rod, Cylinder Pack, or Engine Overhaul Kit built after
12/4/2018 are not affected. Refer to packaging label date code. Refer
to Image 1.
Only packaging labels marked United States are affected. Refer to Image
1.
Parts that have been inspected by Caterpillar will have an inspection
label in Image 2 and/or a blue paint mark in Image 1.
For the part numbers listed inspect for incorrect bolts. Refer to the
attached Rework Procedure.
Once the part has been inspected, mark carton with a blue paint marker
to show it has been inspected. Refer to Image 1.
Place the parts back into dealer parts stock.

SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
Three minutes will be allowed per connecting rod and cylinder pack. Up
to two 1152973 bolts will be allowed if/as needed per each connecting
rod or cylinder pack that was reworked. Ten minutes will be allowed per
engine overhaul kit. Up to twelve 1152973 bolts will be allowed if/as
needed per each engine overhaul kit that was reworked.
PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty
parts handling.

Remove the part from dealer parts stock, unpack, remove rod bolts, and
measure them. If an incorrect 7C8639 75MM bolt is found replace with a
correct 1152973 85MM bolt. When measuring the bolt measure from the base
of the bolt head to the end of the threads. Refer to Image 1.1.1.

Dealers can also make a tool as shown Image 1.2.1 to check the rod
bolts. The tool can be made from 16 gauge wire.
Refer to Image 1.2.2 for the procedure to use tool.
