When cold-starting the engine and shifting to Reverse with your foot on the brake pedal, you hear a booming noise and
the engine idles rough.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
The ANC control unit becomes unstable when the idle fluctuates.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Update the PGM-Fi software. Some vehicles also require a new ANC control unit. Check the VIN to ensure the vehicle
needs a unit.

DIAGNOSIS
1. Check the VIN ranges in SOFTWARE INFORMATION under Repair Procedure A to determine if you need to
replace the ANC control unit.
•
If the VIN range is listed, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE A.
•
If not, go to step 2.
2. Check the VIN ranges in SOFTWARE INFORMATION under Repair Procedure B to determine if you need to
reprogram the PGM-FI.
•
If the VIN range is listed, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B.
REPAIR PROCEDURE A
NOTE
Connect a fully charged jumper battery, and leave it connected during the entire procedure to maintain steady voltage.
Never turn the ignition to OFF or ACCESSORY during the update. If there is a problem with the update, leave the
ignition turned to ON. To prevent control unit damage, do not operate anything electrical (headlights, audio system,
brakes, A/C, power windows, door locks, etc.) during the update. Do not use the MongoosePro VCI.
1. Replace the active noise control unit located under the driver's side center console.

2. Update the PGM-FI software using the i-HDS J2534 rewrite software with the MVCI or DST-i. Refer to service
bulletin 01-026, Updating Control Units/Modules.
