Introduction
Some 2016 – 2018 model year RX350 and RX450h vehicles may exhibit a condition where
water enters the door lock bezel. This condition may cause the door cable to become frozen
and inoperable in freezing conditions. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address
this condition.

Repair Procedure
1. Inspect the door locks in freezing conditions.
Are the door locks operational?
YES — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
NO — Continue to step 2.
2. Transport the vehicle into the shop and allow it to warm up to room temperature, then
reinspect the door locks.
Are the door locks operational?
YES — Continue to step 3.
NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
3. Remove the door lock cable.
A. Rear Door Lock Removal:

Repair Procedure (continued)
NOTICE
The following steps are designed to reduce the risk of door panel damage during window
switch removal. Do NOT deviate from this procedure.
NOTE
Step B applies to both LH and RH rear.
B. Remove the window switch from the door panel.
(1) Apply protective tape around the
bezel as shown.

(2) With a soldering iron, make an
indent into the window switch cover
between the front edge and the
lock button.

Do NOT touch the door panel,
window switch buttons, or
other interior trim with the
soldering iron.

(3) Make the same indent between the rear edge of the window switch and the
window button.

(4) Using a ¼-in. drill bit, drill a hole
into the window switch cover, using
the indents as a guide.

NOTICE
To prevent the drill from going
through the hole and damaging
the part, wrap protective tape
around the drill bit, ¼ in. from
its point.

Use a slow speed on
the drill to reduce the
possibility of the drill slipping
off the window switch.
Be careful not to damage the
door panel.
(5) Using a small screwdriver, release
the locking tab by inserting the
screwdriver into the hole and prying
the tab back.
