Condition
The engine may not start or have a lack of power immediately after replacing the secondary fuel filter. Some fuel filters
have been found to be misassembled at the factory, causing a deformation in the sealing surface that allows supply fuel to
bypass the seal into the return flow, preventing gallery pressure build-up. This results in the following symptoms after
installing the secondary fuel filter:
Engine is hard to start
DTCs P0087 and/or P1087
Lack of power
Low fuel pressure
Chassis Affected
All PACCAR MX-11/MX-13 powered chassis using fuel filter part number 1852006PE.

If the engine shows symptoms of fuel aeration after replacing the secondary fuel filter, remove the filter and inspect it for
deformed seals. See the procedure below.
Warranty
File warranty claims through Cummins.
Take-Off Parts Disposition: Destroy take-off parts after recording date code, UNLESS the date code is 18141 or later. If
the date code is 18141 or later, retain the part until 30 days after the claim is paid.
Claim information:
Date code format is 18XXX-XXXXXX
Claim information must include “Gasket Sealing Issue” and the date code.

Background
PPD initiated an inspection of all fuel filters in stock at distribution centers and dealers to find filters with a deformed seal
surface. It is possible that some filters were missed during this inspection.
Procedure

Remove the secondary fuel filter and inspect the sealing surface.

If the sealing surface is found to be deformed, record the date code of the filter and file a warranty parts claim. The
date code of the sample element shown below is 18109.If the filter is not deformed, perform normal
troubleshooting.
