Introduction:
The intent of this Service Information Letter (SIL) is to inform the Allison service channel of the proper procedures
and components when retrofitting a PTO drive gear to a TC10® transmission.
Installation Procedure:
WARNING: Avoid contact with hot fluid or the sump when draining transmission fluid. Direct contact with
hot fluid or the hot sump may result in bodily injury.
1. Remove the eight (60mm) bolts securing the non-PTO cover to the rear cover.
2. Remove the non-PTO cover and the non-PTO cover gasket. Discard the non-PTO cover gasket.
3. Align the needle bearing assembly with the main housing. Using J-8092 Universal Driver Handle and
J-51615 PTO Needle Bearing Installer, drive the needle bearing assembly into the main housing with the
flat face of the needle bearing assembly facing towards the rear of the transmission (rounded side towards
the front of the transmission).
4. Install the retaining ring securing the needle bearing assembly in the main housing.
5. Press the ball bearing assembly onto the PTO drive gear.
6. Install the retaining ring securing the ball bearing assembly to the PTO drive gear.
7. Install PTO drive gear and ball bearing assembly into the main housing.
8. Install retaining ring securing the PTO drive gear and ball bearing assembly in the main housing.
9. Install the four (55mm) bolts securing the rear cover to the main housing. Tighten the bolts to 90-110 N·m
(66-81 lb ft).
10. Install the O-ring onto the PTO adapter. Lubricate the O-ring.
11. Install the PTO adapter.
12. Install the O-ring onto the PTO cover. Lubricate the O-ring.
13. Install the PTO cover.

14. Install the four (100mm) PTO cover bolts securing the PTO cover to the rear cover. Tighten the bolts to
90-110 N·m (66-81 lb ft).
15. Verify the transmission fluid is filled to the proper level. Fill the transmission with an approved TES 295®
fluid if necessary.
