Side Stand
C 600 Sport (K18, 0132), C 650 GT (K19, 0134)

Details:

BMW Motorrad has ascertained that in some cases the threaded fastener of the side stand can work
loose. If this remains unnoticed by the rider, the consequence is that the side-stand switch is not
tripped when the side stand is extended or retracted. There is a possibility of the engine refusing to
start.

Vehicles
affected:

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Technical Campaign, it will be necessary
to verify all vehicle VINs through a DCS Vehicle History Check. Based on the response of the system,
either proceed with the repair or take no further action. Please note, affected VINs may not appear
until 24-72 hours after the release of this bulletin.

Production
Solution:

After September 24, 2012 high-strength Loctite was applied in series production to secure the screw
of the side stand. A new construction status with a modified pivot-bearing concept was introduced
into series production in August 2013.

Aftersales
Solution:

Before handing over a new vehicle to its owner or when vehicles possibly affected by this problem are
next brought to the workshop, secure the pivot bearing screw of the side stand with high-strength
Loctite as described below. For details on removing and installing side stand, see work item 46 53 005
Removing/installing/cleaning/lubricating Side Stand in the latest RSD (Repair and Service Data BMW
Motorrad).
Clean threads (arrows) of screw (1) and in side stand (2).

Cover threads (2) and lightly lubricate only the bearing
face (arrow) of screw (1).

line(s) must be claimed using plus code labor operations.
