Summary
Alternator regulator for models: A modification has been made to the electronics of the alternator regulator. This has not resulted in a change to the part number (12 31 7 718 422). The label affixed to the rear of the component indicates the difference in version status. The new version (FH020CA) is the only one available as a replacement part. This new alternator regulator (FH020CA) should never be installed without a fuse as protection against polarity reversal. If the new alternator regulator were to be installed without this fuse being integrated into the wiring harness, polarity reversal could result in very severe damage to the vehicle.

Models: C 600 Sport (K18), C 650 GT (K19), HP4 (K42), S 1000 RR (K46, K46/11), S 1000 R (K47).
Details: A modification has been made to the electronics of the alternator regulator. This has not resulted in a
change to the part number (12 31 7 718 422). The label affixed to the rear of the component indicates the
difference in version status.
The new version (FH020CA) is the only one available as a replacement part. This new alternator regulator
(FH020CA) should never be installed without a fuse as protection against polarity reversal.

Production Solution: As of February 03, 2014 onward, the models stated above have a wiring harness with
integrated fuse for the alternator regulator installed in series production.
Aftersales Solution: If an affected vehicle requires renewal of the alternator regulator, it is essential to install a
repair line along with the alternator regulator.
See the description of the applicable work item (12 32 001) on the current RSD (Repair and Service Data
BMW Motorrad) DVD.
Warranty processing
The repair described in this bulletin will be covered by the normal terms of the BMW New Motorcycle Limited
Warranty or until December 31, 2017, whichever comes first.
Use the temporary defect code below to bill installation of the repair line. Use the defect code and FRU amounts
in RSD for renewal of the alternator regulator.
