"Service Action: Replace Engine Compartment Sound Insulation. The sound insulation in the engine compartment does not seal properly. SITUATION
The sound insulation in the engine compartment does not seal properly.
CAUSE
Manufacturing tolerances and a defect in workmanship may cause the sound insulation to leak water into the
DME wiring connector.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves F80 and F82 vehicles produced from March 18, 2014 to May 20, 2014.
First check if a Service Action label with a code number 698 is already attached to the B-pillar.
If a code number 698 has been punched out, the Service Action has already been performed and no further
action is necessary.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in the
"Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
CORRECTION
Replace the engine compartment sound insulation.
PROCEDURE
Below is Repair Instruction 51 75 030 from ISTA.
1. Left side: Turn the locks (1) 90
degrees counterclockwise.
Unlock the catch (2) and remove
the cover (3).

2. Right side: Turn the locks (1) 90
degrees counterclockwise.
Unlock the catch (3) and remove
the cover (2).
3. Remove the screws (1, 2 and 3)
and feed out the carbon strut.
4. Remove the expanding rivets (1).
Place the sealing (2) back.

5. Remove the screw (1) and holder
for the expansion tank from the
tension strut.
Remove the screws (2, 3 and 4).

Perform the work on the right
side in the same way as for the
left side, shown here.
6. Pull off the seal (1).
Release the covers (2) and
remove the screws underneath.
Remove the tension strut (3).
7. Release the expansion rivet (1).
Unclip the seal (2) in the
direction of the arrows.
8. Remove the screws (1).
Feed out the sound insulation
from the upper part of the
bulkhead (2) and replace the
sound insulator.

The gasket at the bottom of the
sound insulation of the upper
part of the bulkhead (2) must not
be damaged.
9. Feed in the carbon strut.
Tighten down the screws (1).
Tightening torque is 28Nm.
Tighten down screw (2) then
tighten down the screws (3).
Tightening torque is 28Nm.
10. Make sure the seal (1) fits
correctly on the left and right
carbon strut (2).
11. Insert the tension strut (3).
Tighten the screws under the
covers (2).
Tightening torque is 56Nm.
Install the covers (2).

Attach the seal (1).

12. Attach the holder for the
expansion tank on the tension
strut and secure it with the screw
(1).
Tighten the screws (2, 3 and 4).
Screws 2,3: Tightening torque is
28Nm.
Screw 4: Tightening torque is
34Nm.

13. Attach the seal (2) and secure it
with the expanding rivets (1).

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number
698. After the vehicle has been checked and/or
corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-439) and:
A. Emboss your BMW
center warranty number in
the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 698 (2), printed on the
label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to
the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could
appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
