SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN (SSC) – 30C
(2003 MY TOYOTA 4RUNNER V6 FUEL PULSATION DAMPER)

Toyota will initiate a Special Service Campaign (SSC) to replace the fuel pulsation damper on
certain 2003 Model Year (MY) Toyota 4Runner V6 vehicles.
On certain early 2003 Model Year 4Runner V6 vehicles, the fuel pulsation damper, located on the fuel
rail, may have been improperly assembled. If the pulsation damper fails, a small amount of fuel may
leak. In the worst case, this may result in an engine compartment fire if a heat or ignition source is
present.
The following vital information is provided to inform you and your staff of the campaign notification schedule and your degree of involvement.
1.

Owner Notification Letter Mailing Date
The owner notification will commence in early May, 2003.
Please note that not all vehicles in the VIN range are affected by this SSC. If you are contacted
by an owner of an involved vehicle, who has not yet received a notification, please verify eligibility by confirming through Dealer Daily/TIS prior to performing repairs. Dealers should perform the inspection and/or repair as outlined in the attached Technical Instructions.

Identification of Involved Vehicles
Nationally, there are approximately 29,500 early 2003 Model Year 4Runner V6 vehicles involved
in this campaign.

Not all 2003 Model Year 4Runner V6 vehicles in the VIN ranges are involved in this SSC. As always, consult Dealer Daily/TIS to confirm VIN eligibility and to assure the SSC is applicable. This will verify the vehicle is affected and has not already been completed prior to dealer
shipment or by another dealer. Some vehicles may have been repaired prior to Dealer delivery therefore; please make sure the vehicle is involved prior to conducting repairs.

Vehicles in Dealer Stock
As required by Federal Regulation, dealers are not to deliver any vehicle acquired in their inventory, which is involved in a safety recall, until the necessary repairs have been performed.

Dealer Inventory Lists
Dealer Vehicle Inventory Lists for this campaign have been distributed to each dealership’s Service and Parts Managers. These lists are based upon the wholesale dealer and have been updated for dealer trades where possible. Based upon our records, a dealership which does not
have any affected vehicles in their current inventory will receive a report indicating so.
(Note: Some vehicles may have been repaired prior to dealer delivery at the port facilities;
these have been removed from the Dealer Vehicle Inventory List). Please make sure the
vehicle is involved and has not already been repaired prior to replacing the Fuel Pulsation
Damper.
Another dealer communication will be sent in late April, 2003, which will include owner name and
address information and a sample copy of the owner letter in preparation for the owner notification. The owner notification will commence in early May, consistent with parts availability.
