Subject:

Performance Enhancement Update, Aluminum Couplers (96W/102W). Endurance
testing has shown us that we can improve the long term performance of the cross
tubes and cross straps on the aluminum upper coupler through the addition of extra
fasteners into the rear most tube.

Anytime that you replace the cross tubes or the cross straps on an existing
aluminum upper coupler, please use the following procedure and parts.

Description:

Add additional BOM fasteners and cross strap spacer, update cross strap installation

Field replacement components will be punched to allow proper installation at the
stealth bracket end. All remaining fastener hole locations and strap length/shape
is completed as listed in the table on page 2, this document, per AL coupler
repair.

Add #8 BOM fasteners to the bottom cross strap (no spacer) to secure cross
strap to cross tube

Add #14 BOM fasteners top the top cross strap (with spacer) to secure cross
strap to cross tube

Scenario #1: Replacing Cross Straps but not cross tubes presents problems with
aligning existing holes in the cross tubes with the replacement cross straps:

use nuts, washers and bolts to re-assemble straps to tubs, all positions, 3/8-16 x

2 %' long for this method

e Use washers on the bottom of the cross tube and over the top of the cross straps
for this process

e Straps should be pre-punched at either end for positioning cross straps

Back-drill through existing
holes in cross tubes for

NOTE: Do Not Use BOM
fasteners for this repair.

Scenario #2: Replacing both cross straps and cross tubes allows the cross strap
fastener holes to be drilled for the forward two (2) tubes for locating fasteners
e Use the drilled cross strap holes to pierce holes into

drill through the spacers unless the holes are pre-punched for fastener
installation
