GHG17 DD Platform Model Years 2016-2018 Software Reprogramming For
California Onboard Diagnostics
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the California and Federal standards and
regulations for emission-related diagnostic systems. Daimler Trucks North America LLC, has determined that a
defect, which relates to vehicle emissions, exists in certain Model Years 2016-2018 GHG17 DD platform engines
that are registered in California.
Records indicate that your vehicle has one of these affected engines. Reprogramming software and fuel maps will
correct an issue regarding Onboard Diagnostic (OBD) monitors to ensure fulfillment of required in-use monitoring
performance ratio targets. This will prevent fault codes and performance issues that may result in customer
dissatisfaction. The procedure will be completed at no cost to you when performed by an Authorized Detroit Diesel
Repair Facility. The scheduled time for this software update is approximately 0.7 hours.
Please understand that the California DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) will reject vehicle registration renewals
if this emission related recall has not been completed.
A blank copy of the Vehicle Emission Recall-Proof of Correction Certificate is attached. Please have your repair
facility fill this out completely if your vehicle is registered in California. You may need this at the time of your vehicle
registration renewal.
If you do not own the vehicle that corresponds to the identification number(s), which appears on the Recall
Notification, please return the notification to the Warranty Department, Attention Campaign Coordinator, with any
information you can furnish that will assist us in locating the present owner.
If you have paid to have this recall condition corrected prior to this notice, you may be eligible to receive
reimbursement. Requests for reimbursement may include parts and labor. Reimbursement may be limited to
the amount the repair would have cost if completed by a Detroit Authorized Repair Facility.
The following documentation must be presented to your dealer for consideration for reimbursement. Please provide
original or clear copies of all receipts, invoices, and repair orders that show:


The name and address of the person who paid for the repair.



The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle that was repaired.



What problem occurred, what repair was done, when the repair was done.



Who repaired the vehicle.



The total cost of the repair expense that is being claimed.



Proof of payment for the repair (such as the front and back of a cancelled check or a credit card
receipt).

Reimbursement will be made by check from your Detroit Diesel dealer. Please speak with your Detroit Diesel
authorized dealer concerning this matter.
For those customers who had this issue and paid for the service prior to this recall, they can send in their receipts
to DDC for reimbursement consideration”
