Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before
customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please
perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
SUBJECT

Service Action: Replace Left Front Spring Strut
MODEL

F01 (740i Sedan)
F02 (740Li Sedan LWB and a 750Li xDrive LWB)
F10 (535i Sedan)
SITUATION

The “Variable Damper Control” (VDC) valves for the spring strut shock absorber on the left front
axle may fail, causing the Check Control message: “Chassis function restricted. It is possible to
continue driving. Have the system checked as soon as possible by your local BMW Service
Workshop” to be displayed.
AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action only affects four (4) vehicles as noted above according to VIN selection.
The Centers with the affected vehicles will be notified directly.
PROCEDURE

Replace the left front spring strut as per the Repair Instructions RA 3711032 (Remove and refit or
replace the front left or right spring strut) or RA 3711032 (Remove and refit or replace the front left
or right spring strut, all-wheel drive vehicle).
Program and code the vehicle using the latest version ISTA/P (3.56.0 or higher).

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger / power supply (SI B04 23 10).

Vehicle Programming and Coding
If a control module was working properly and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization,
please claim this additional work with the applicable KSD2 labor operations under the defect code
listed above.
The diagnosis and repair of vehicles “arriving” with failed control modules or stored faults which
will cause them to fail during programming cannot be claimed under the defect code listed in this
bulletin.
Other Repairs
If other eligible and covered work is performed “prior” to programming and coding the vehicle,
claim this work with the applicable defect code and labor operations listed in KSD2.
